Canaan Middle School Update
January 26th, 2024
Principal Corner
Dear Canaan Middle School Families,
The past weeks have brought various weather challenges, and we sincerely appreciate the adaptability and resilience demonstrated by our students. Students have done a great job as schedules have been modified and activities have been rescheduled. A big thank you to our parents for your flexibility and understanding during 2-hour delays; your cooperation has been invaluable.
In light of the fluctuating weather conditions, we are committed to maintaining outdoor recess whenever possible. It is important for students to dress appropriately for the weather, equipped with layers, jackets, and other weather-appropriate gear.
Looking ahead, mark your calendars for Friday, February 2nd. On this day, we have scheduled yearbook small group pictures for students involved in clubs or activities like band, choir, the play, and student council to name a few. Pictures will be taken during the school day, and we will limit the disruptions to our students academic's. We will also be snapping some fun candid photos for our yearbook on this day as well!
As always, stay tuned for any updates or changes, and thank you for your ongoing cooperation and support in creating a positive and adaptable learning environment for our students.
Best regards,
Mr. Walter, Principal
Canaan Middle School
5th Grade Update
Fifth grade students at Canaan Middle School will be starting the D.A.R.E. program next week. D.A.R.E. is a series of ten classroom lessons led by Madison County Deputy, Roberta Roberts. This curriculum teaches the foundational skills that youth need to resist peer pressure and to be safe, healthy, and responsible in leading drug-free lives. Students receive one D.A.R.E. lesson per week during their social studies period.

What's New in Specials
We have very talented artists at CMS!
Students enjoyed a new take on dodgeball as they played with partners instead of teams.
Some fun art projects on display
Counselor’s Corner - Mrs. Hein
Sixth graders had the opportunity to utilize the Ohio Means Jobs website to
explore careers based on their interests. They enjoyed taking the Career Cluster
Inventory to help narrow down their career choices. From their results, they were
able to learn about the necessary skills, personality traits, education
requirements, and salaries associated with each occupation that interested them.
Enrichment Activity
Only one octagon could be moved at a time, and larger ones could not be stacked on top of smaller ones. The biggest challenge of all was that students were not allowed to talk or gesture while completing the task.
