June 7, 2021 -- Saying Goodbye To The 2020-2021 School Year!
A Message from CFF President Stefania Willens--
Dear Community Families -
The last day of school for students is Friday, June 11th! How is it possible that we are embarking on our last week of the 2020 - 2021 school year? Time certainly flies!
Reflecting back on the same time last year, our Board was moving along with ending the school year virtually and busy figuring out how we would welcome our new families and planning for a very uncertain start to the 2020 - 2021 school year. Fast forward to June 2021, I am in awe and so proud of how our community came together to support our school and our students.
I shared with the board during our summer planning months that we'll need to be creative, flexible, and have an open mind about how we raise money and support our school. We all came together and never lost sight of our goal-- despite all the uncertainties we faced personally or professionally. We were creative, we were flexible, and we had an open mind and never let any challenges we faced turn into roadblocks.
THANK YOU to all of our families who supported our school financially, we couldn't have done it without you! We are GRATEFUL to our school staff, teachers and our principal for their unwavering support to our students and families. I want to extend my sincere APPRECIATION to the CFF Board of Directors and Committee Chairs, I often say "It takes a village!", it most certainly did - we would not be able to continue supporting Community and CFF without each and everyone of them!
Despite being virtual, we accomplished a lot and continued a variety of CMCS tradition this school year, including:
Summer Virtual Meet & Greet volunteers
Pledge Drive Committee
Parade of Mask - Decorating Campus/Distribution Day Committee
Book Fair Committee
Readathon Committee
Virtual Sweethearts Dance Committee
Online Auction Committee
Dine and Donate Committee
Year Book Committee
Garden Committee
Spirit Store Team
Social Media Team
Culmination Committee
Hospitality Committee (Teacher Appreciation)
Please consider joining one of the committees next year to support our wonderful school! Get full descriptions and complete your interest form here: https://forms.gle/RkqAyG5SoW99fgLi6
We're also looking for someone to join the CFF Board as a co-secretary! Email cff@welovecmcs.org to join the team!
My sincere gratitude to everyone for helping made this year possible. While we will not have our financials to share until late summer, I am confident thanks to your meeting the Donor Challenge, we will collectively meet our fundraising goal of $325k this year.
Thank you for giving me an opportunity to serve as your CFF President this year. Looking forward to serving with Kate Harrington as co-President next year with our new Board. Have a great summer and before we know it, we will be back in person in August!
Sincerely,
Stefania Willens
CFF President

FINAL DISTRIBUTION DAY/DEVICE/TEXT BOOK RETURN
For those students on campus, teachers will be sending home things like purchased yearbooks, student recognition certificates, completed work, etc. during the final week of school. They will also be collecting textbooks and library books. The instructions for returning computers and chargers are as follows:
- All 1st grade and 5th grade students are to return their devices and chargers UNLESS you student will be attending summer school. Those students may keep their computers until after summer school. Information about how/when to return those devices will follow.
- All students who are NOT returning to Community next year must return their devices and chargers.
- Kindergarten students and 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders who are coming back for the 2021-22 school year may keep their devices over the summer. They will be using the same computer next school year.
For those students returning a device, if your iPad or laptop is not working properly, please tape a note to it explaining what the problem is. Lost or damaged devices/chargers must be paid for according to the district’s replacement scale.
For remote learners, please see the schedule below for your assigned timeslot for coming to school to return materials and receive items from us via our car line. Exchanges will be made curbside - you will not be exiting your car. You will notice that the window for this exchange is shortened due to the fact that we have 28 buses and long carpool lines all throughout the day. The window below should be pretty clear! Please keep in mind that if you are too early or too late and get caught in the bus/valet lines, we will not be able to help you with the exchange until we are finished with the AM arrivals/midday dismissal. You will be asked to exit and come back through once those lines have cleared.
Wednesday, June 9th 8:30-10:00 – Grades 2 and 3
Thursday, June 10th 8:30-10:00 – Grades 4* and 5** (some items distributed separately for 5th)
Friday, June 11th 8:30-10:00 – Grades K and 1
Families with more than one student may come on the later of the days. And for those unable to come during the window below, you may come on the 9th, 10th, or 11th between 3:30 and 4:30.
* For our handful of virtual 4th graders in zoom class in the morning, you may come at 3:30 on the 10th or 11th.

5th Grade Shirt Design:
Memory Wall:
We're thrilled to share the awe inspiring 5th Grade Memory Wall with all of you! This meaningful message and design we know will remain at Community for years to come!! For those in person you will be greeted by this amazing piece as you drive in tomorrow or your children will see it from their bus windows. And for those virtual you cannot miss it as you drive into our Community parking lot and/or while rocking this design when wearing our hoodies loud and proud!!
This message truly encompasses what Community represents; UNITY, diversity, inclusion, acceptance and so much more!! Not only does it represent Community, but it was truly relevant as we looked back over this last year that saw so much and injustices we continue to fight.
All "Class of 2021" students' names were etched together under this mural which honored their theme of, "Stronger Together, Never Apart". Thank you Amanda for your incomparable artistry, dedication and commitment to giving our kids and school something they can always treasure!!
Thanks to the whole mural team for making this happen!
