Valerius Plan on a Page

Each year, schools across UCSD write a strategic plan to help us reach our goals for academics, parent engagement, student engagement, staff engagement, and safety. The building leadership team studies the data from all of these areas, including the feedback collected during our results roll out processes, to determine next steps for buildings. During the school year, this data is reviewed every 60 days to see if the plan in place needs tweaked or improved based on what we are seeing. The Valerius Plan on a Page summarizes the work we are engaged in this year as we continue to focus on student engagement with a focus on feedback, recognition, goal setting, and voice & choice in learning.

VIRTUAL Conference Dates: November 17th and 19th

Conferences are approaching on the evenings of November 17 and 19. You may notice they are occurring later than last year. This is a result of feedback that we received throughout the District preferring a later timeline for conferences. This year as we engage virtually, please watch for specific details from your student's teacher regarding the role students will play. Each teacher will have a zoom link that they will send out the week before conferences. When you log in, you will be in the waiting room. The teacher will let you in during your assigned time. Conferences will run for 15 minutes, just like they have in the past. Teachers will focus on what has been learned, the students current progress, and goals for the trimester ahead. Sign ups will come out on TUESDAY AFTERNOON.

COLD WEATHER GUIDELINES

As the temperatures begin to dip, please remember to send appropriate cold weather gear. Below are the guidelines we use across Urbandale for our winter weather requirements:


  • When temperatures fall below 40 degrees, students are required to wear coats and pants (not shorts) out to recess.
  • If there is snow, students must-have boots, snow pants, hats, & gloves to play in the snow. If you are in need of winter gear please reach out to your child's teacher. We're happy to connect you with what you need.
  • When temperatures fall below 10 degrees with windchill, we will have indoor recess.


Please note that temperatures inside the building can vary and it is always helpful for your student to have an extra layer available in their locker in case they are cold.

Notes from our Facilitator of Family Outreach (FFO):

We really need donations of snow pants as well as warm gloves for students may not have these items. We will also take gently used or new boots. Please make sure these items are clean and in good shape.Please have your students put them in the bins by the main entrance doors for parent pick up.


We have a family resources website here. Any needs families may have, they can look at this website and find lots of resources. One resource I would like to highlight is food. There are so many opportunities for available food for free here in our district. Please check out the website for more information. Also, Remember, all breakfasts and lunches are free for all students now until December or until funding runs out. PTO FUN RUN!

2020 VIRTUAL FUN RUN!

We hope you enjoyed your run or walk over the weekend! Remember to send your photo to valeriupto@gmail.com to be entered into a drawing for prizes! (Please include your name, photos will be included in the event slideshow.) DEADLINE EXTENDED to midnight on Wednesday, October 28th. We can't wait to see all of your smiling faces!


Please turn in any cash or check donations to the school in the envelope provided by Wednesday, October 28th. Students will get to celebrate at school with popsicles and a movie! Stickers, bubbles and slime will be sent home in a prize pack! We are SO close to our fundraising goal... the final school-wide prize level is PIE THE PARENTS.... AND THE PRINCIPAL. We would love to see this happen!

Morgan Carroll T-Shirt Fundraiser

The Learning Lab team at Valerius elementary created a t-shirt fundraiser to support Morgan's recovery. Morgan is our beloved special education associate who was in a devastating car accident on Monday, Oct. 12th. DROP OFF and PICK UP

Thank you to everyone for your work in learning the new drop off and pick up procedures. They are running smoothly.


Just a reminder that if you arrive after the 8:55 bell, and there is no adult by the north doors, you need to walk your child to the office doors to let them in.
