I would like to pause, and take an opportunity to thank each of you. Hellstern is a special place and we have such great students and teachers. A big part of our success are the families that support us. Please enjoy this holiday week that is upcoming. Rest, relax, and take some time to enjoy your loved ones.

I would love to offer you an opportunity to give some words of encouragement to our staff. They have worked so hard and could use all the encouragement you would offer. Please complete this form as many times as you would like, none of the questions are required.

I will be sharing these responses with our staff on Thursday.

Last year was a tough year, as you all know! We are excited to share some great news! When all schools in the state were compared (elementary, middle, junior, high school), we ranked in the top 10% for overall achievement and for student growth. Because of this, we were awarded $80,000!!!

We also just found out, when compared with other middle level schools in the state, we received the following designations:

• High Overall Growth (Statewide)
• High ELA Growth (Statewide)
• High Overall Growth (NW region)
• High ELA Growth (NW region)

We are SOOOO proud of our students and staff for all the work they put in last year!! We are going to do EVEN BETTER this year!!

We received a LARGE shipment of pictures on Friday. We will be sending those pictures home on Monday. I know there have been questions about this and I have heard of a few issues with orders. All that to say, this may change your plans for our Friday picture re-takes. Be sure and look for those packages. Let your child know that you will need to see them on Monday afternoon, so encourage them to bring them home!

A few weeks ago, Hellstern 6th graders finished their India unit in Social Studies by learning about Diwali, which was celebrated by Indians in America and around the world on November 4th. They practiced the Indian art form of rangoli by using colored sand to create patterns on the Hellstern sidewalks. They also sampled a few sweet and savory treats, such as samosas and gulab jamun, and lit candles symbolizing light overcoming darkness. Special thanks to the Thind family for helping to create such a meaningful experience for our students!
