A Message from Mrs. Caudill
This week we had an unexpected fire drill. Events like this give both our students and our staff a way to exemplify leadership. I took pride in how well our students calmly exited the building and listened to their teachers, even though they knew it was time to go home. This is leadership in action. However, I think one leadership act of in particular that needs to be recognized.
On the way out of the building Maria H, a fifth grader in Mr. Wayne's class noticed a kindergartener that was caught in the hallway as he was on his way to gym to go home via the loop when the alarm went off. Maria took him by the hand and kept him safe with her class during the drill. She did not do this to be recognized, she did this because it was the right thing to so. She did this because this is what a leader does.
While these unexpected moments do interrupt the flow of our days. I love to see how our Bobcats shine.
Stay well,
Devon Caudill

Free to Learn: Why understanding the Instinct to Play Will Make Our Children Happier, More Self-Reliant and Better Students for Life
I am so very excited to announce our second annual Book Club for Parents. I have been reading this amazing book called, Free to Learn. In Free to Learn, developmental psychologist Peter Gray argues that in order to foster children who will thrive in today's constantly changing world, we must entrust them to steer their own learning and development.
I would like to offer a book club to anyone that is interested. Sometime in Mid-March, I would like to invite everyone to join me to enjoy some lively conversation about this book. If you are interested, complete this sign-up and a book will be sent home with your student.
The first 15 to sign-up got a free book. After that, you are more than welcome to purchase the book and join us for the conversation.
Please click the following link to sign-up: Book Club Sign-up

HABIT 5 - SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD
During the month of February we will be working on Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, then to be Understood.
What this means: Listen before you talk. In order to communicate effectively, we must first understand each other.
“I listen to other people’s ideas and feelings.”
“I try to see things from their viewpoints.”
“I listen to others without interrupting.”
“I am confident in voicing my ideas.”
“I look people in the eyes when talking.”
How can I do this in my life?
1. Listen.
2. Put yourself in the other person’s place.
3. Notice a person’s body language, tone, and reflection in their voice.
