In the classrooms:
Math:
First graders are continuing to use addition and subtraction within twenty to solve word problems.
E/LA:
First graders continue to work on CVC short vowel pattern words with initial s blends (sk,sl,sm,sn,sp,st and sw). Children are learning contraction words as well as singular and plural nouns. In fundations children are extending their vocabulary for homonyms and synonyms using their word of the day cards as a basis for discussion.
Other:
Parents are doing a great job sending in donations for our gingerbread house project. We appreciate all your help. Please remember to get a background check into the office if you plan on volunteering for the project on the 21st.
Grade 2:
Math:
Second grade students are continuing to practice their subtraction skills with larger numbers. They are all learning to check their own answers using addition. We are also working on coin recognition and values.
E/LA:
We have been busy reading and learning about different customs for various Winter Holidays. The children love having parent volunteers come in to read.
Other:
Parents should stay tuned for a fun upcoming Holiday event for the students.
Thoughts from our Frenchtown Friends: "What will you be doing over December vacation?"
Riley: "See Santa."
