Week of February 6, 2023
From the Principal
It is hard to believe that we are moving into week 25 or our 36 week school year! The end of the year will be here before we know it!
Note that we will have school holidays Monday and Tuesday, February 13 and 14.
We will have Valentine's Day parties this coming Friday. These parties are a time for our students to celebrate with their classmates. Please remember that for safety and space reasons, siblings - of any age - should not attend parties.
Your help is needed....Please remember to pick-up and drop-off your students through the carline. Only folks with business in the office should get out of their cars to bring students in. The fewer folks we have out of cars in the parking lot increases the safety of our parking lot and the efficiency of the car line. Please remember that there is very little wait for drop-off between 7:20 and 7:40!
We appreciate everyone's support of West End!
We hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
Angie Garrison, Ed.D.
Principal
West End's Mission: Our West End Community maximizes students’ potential by providing instruction that builds our students’ knowledge, strengthens their skills, and develops in them career-ready characteristics for success in an ever-changing world.
Because of Title 1...
Our second goal is to receive feedback about our Title 1 program through a survey. This survey will be sent home this week. Before you answer the questions on the survey, we wanted to remind you of the things provided at our school because we are Title 1. Please read through this document and let Mrs. Simpson know if you have any questions.
West End Reads
Grades 2-5 read chapters 4-5 of Finding Gobi this week. As a reminder, students who complete the activity packet will be invited to a special celebration on April 21st. An even bigger surprise is that Dion and Gobi will visit our school in April to share their journey with us!
*As a reminder, we do not have extra books nor packets, so please make sure your child keeps up with theirs so they can participate in the celebration!!

Absences, Tardiness, and Excuses
Please remember to turn in an excuse for each day your child misses school. Doctor’s notes, parent notes, emails, texts, and Schoology messages to the teacher all serve as excuses. Please note, doctor’s notes are required after the 10th absence. If a child accumulates 3 consecutive or 5 total unexcused absences, an Attendance Intervention Plan conference will need to be held. Continued absences could result in additional conferencing and/or referral to the district for truancy…leading to possible Court Order for attendance. This includes being at school on time each day. Students tend to perform better when they maintain a routine schedule and begin the day with their classmates.
Student Chromebooks
Student devices are in use by all students. Kindergarten uses Chromebook tablets in their classrooms. Help us to encourage students to take care of and protect their devices in order to keep then working properly all school year. This includes taking care of chargers and cases as well. Remember lost or damaged items can incur a fee to replace them. If you have not already, please sign in to your My School Bucks account to pay the $25 tech fee that is required of all School District of Pickens County students.
