• Students are not allowed to decorate their cap & gown prior to the graduation ceremony. If they do, they will be asked to remove the decorations before the ceremony.
• Flowers are allowed after the ceremony. If a student receives flowers before the ceremony, they will be asked to put them aside until after the ceremony.
• DU does not allow any noise makers, balloons or confetti.
• Noise makers can disrupt the ceremony and prevent other graduates and families from hearing their name being called.

Tickets will not be required.

• There are enough seats for each graduate to have 8 guests; please do not exceed this number.

Required Attire for Graduation - Graduation is a formal ceremony and celebration. The following attire will be expected of your student for the graduation ceremony.

• Please be sure gowns are zipped up.
• A dress or skirt - (The length of the dress or skirt should not extend below the graduation gown.)
  
• Light-colored blouse.
• Khaki or black long pants.
• Long-sleeved white or light-colored dress shirt with a collar and tie.
• Dress shoes or dress sandals, no flip-flops or tennis shoes.
• Per School Board policy, only school-issued stoles, and cords can be worn during the ceremony. Any item other than the school-issued stoles and cords will be confiscated and the student will need to pick them up after the ceremony.
• The Board Policy states that caps and gowns cannot be altered or decorated in any way, nor will students be allowed to bring objects (such as balloons, streamers, noise makers, etc.) into the ceremony.
• The University of Denver prohibits confetti, helium balloons, and noise-makers.

• Students will need to provide their own transportation to and from graduation.
• Students need to arrive at 8:00am.
• Students will enter on the North Side of Magness Arena, off Buchtel Blvd, and go directly into the Hamilton Gym.
• Students should arrive dressed in their caps and gowns.
• As parking will be limited, we suggest families drop their graduates off and then go park their car.

Graduation will take place at Magness Arena or Hamilton Gymnasium within The Ritchie Center on the University of Denver’s campus.

Please see below for important information about your ceremony.

Address — The Ritchie Center is located at 2240 Buchtel Blvd S, Denver, CO 80210.

Entrances— There are three main entrances for the building, the North, West, and South entrances. These are indicated on the map by a yellow star.

ADA Entrances—The Ritchie Center recommends using the lower North and South entrances for ADA related entry. The lower North entrance is off of Buchtel Blvd, directly in front of the main circle. This circle is to be used for ADA drop-off only, with ADA parking in Lot 311 and Lot 401. The South entrance is off of E Asbury Avenue, with closest parking available in Lot L.

Special Notes—Please plan to arrive EARLY for your scheduled graduation ceremony. Traffic and parking become very congested as there are very few entry points to our parking lots. There is also a NO bag policy for all guests wishing to enter the Ritchie Center for a graduation ceremony.

Please take a moment to review this policy.

In order to prevent any delays in the check in process, please follow the guidelines below. This is regulated by DU and there are *NO EXCEPTIONS*.

The policy is no purses/bags at all.

• This includes fanny packs, purses, clear bags, drawstring bags no matter the size.

• However, clutches and wallets will be allowed in.
• General rule of thumb would be if it fits in a standard pant pocket it would be allowed in assuming it doesn’t contain any prohibited items.
• Guests who require a diaper bag or bag for medical equipment are permitted to bring a bag no larger than 12 in. x 6 in. x 12 in.
• All guests entering with medical or diaper bags are subject to visual screening upon entry.
• There is no bag check available at The Ritchie Center.
• Guests will not be allowed to enter with an unapproved bag.

Graduation Parking is $10.00/vehicle (CASH ONLY)

Parking will be available in the following lots:

• Lot 108, Lot C, Lot L, and Lot W
• ADA Parking—Lot 311

Please REFRAIN from parking in the following areas as they are NOT affiliated with the University of Denver and are PRIVATE PROPERTY:

• RTD Parking Lot
• Apartment/Condominium and Residential Parking on Buchtel Blvd, University Blvd and E Jewell Avenue University Park Tower Condominiums do not have public parking available.

Parking in this complex is subject to the violator being ticketed and/or towed.

• Permitted Only Parking in neighborhood streets—please note time limits, zones, and permit only areas.

• Animals (service animals permitted)
• Artificial noisemakers; air horns, whistles, vuvuzelas, etc.
• Balloons, balls, confetti, frisbees, and other projectiles
• Candles or open flames
• Derogatory/defamatory clothing or signage
• Firearms, weapons, and dangerous devices
• Flash photography, video cameras, recording devices, cameras with detachable lenses • Fireworks
• Hard-shell coolers, containers, thermoses (to include hydroflasks and metal water bottles)
• Illegal drugs or alcohol
• Inflatable objects (beach balls, latex balloons, “clappers”, etc.)
• Laser pointers or other disturbing items
• Outside food and beverages, including empty or full plastic bottles, glass bottles, and cans
• Oversized signs or banners (larger than 28” x 22”), to include any signage with a stick or pole attached
• Other items deemed prohibited by Ritchie Center and Event Staff Management reserves the right to handle each occurrence on a case-by-case basis.
• All permitted bags, jackets and guests are subject to search upon entering

At the conclusion of the graduation ceremony, please proceed to the west side of The Ritchie Center to be reunited with your graduate. You may exit from all entrances and make your way to our soccer and lacrosse stadiums are located—graduates will exit directly outside of these stadiums from the lower level of the arena. This area is indicated by the gold star within the map above. Once reunited with your graduate, please clear the area. There may be another graduation ceremony or outdoor event that may require you to clear the vicinity of The Ritchie Center quickly. We encourage you to cross the street of Asbury Avenue to explore campus and take pictures with your graduates in the surrounding areas.

This year we are working with Lifetouch/Shutterfly for graduation portraits at our commencement ceremony.

• Lifetouch will photograph our graduates and 3-5 days after the ceremony the portraits will upload to a Photo Day website you can access using the link below.

• Once the portraits are uploaded you will be directed to the graduation gallery to view the student portraits for this event

• If you log in prior to the images being uploaded you will receive a special offer to make a pre-payment towards your graduation order and receive free shipping.

• Prepayments are not required to view your student’s portrait, simply wait until after the images are uploaded to the gallery.

If you are unable to attend the DU Graduation Ceremony, you may pick up your diploma at the front office starting Friday, May 19th.

If your student has not yet purchased a yearbook, books for purchase will be $100 cash and will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. *No checks will be accepted for purchases.

Senior Diploma Packet

• Directions on how to print your graduate’s immunization record and an unofficial transcript will also be included with their diploma or certificate of attendance.

• These records might be needed for scholarship, employment, and fraternity/sorority applications.
  
• An official transcript will automatically be sent to the college they indicated in their graduation survey.
  
• Students can still print a copy of their unofficial transcript and their immunization record from Infinite Campus through the month of June only.
• Beginning July 1, graduates must request their transcripts from the DCSD website.
• *After July 1. 2023 you will NO LONGER have access to your IC account. Order your official transcript here.
