We are pleased to inform you of Rockland’s participation in the Massachusetts State Seal of Biliteracy for the 2022-2023 School Year. The Seal of Biliteracy is for any student who demonstrates proficiency in English and any other language, whether they speak the non-English language at home or learned it at school or in the community.
The State Seal of Biliteracy aims to:
(a) Encourage students to study and master languages;
(b) Certify attainment of biliteracy skills;
(c) Recognize the value of language diversity;
(d) Provide employers with a method of identifying people with language and biliteracy skills;
(e) Provide universities with a method to recognize and give credit to applicants for the attainment of high-level skills in languages;
(f) Prepare students with skills that will benefit them in the labor market and the global society; and
(g) Strengthen intergroup communication and honor the multiple cultures and languages in a community.*
To earn the Seal of Biliteracy, students must:

orFor languages that do not have readily available assessments, completing a portfolio demonstrating Intermediate-High proficiency in speaking, writing, reading, and listening.
We will be administering the English Language Arts MCAS and administering CTFL

We look forward to honoring the language expertise and diversity in our district through this initiative. If you are interested in taking the CTFL Assessment in March, please complete this form by January 15, 2023.
Credit for Life Fair
On Thursday, December 8th, RHS held the annual Credit for Life Fair. This year sophomore and junior students had the opportunity to participate in the Fair, organized by our guidance department. During the Credit for Life Fair students are taken into the future as if they are a 25-year-old adult. Students choose an occupation, are assigned a monthly salary and learn how to budget their money for things such as: Buying/leasing a car/Basic Transportation, Renting an apartment/buying a house, Furniture, Groceries, Insurance, Clothing, Luxury items such as hair, nails, and vacations. RHS thanks several staff members who assisted at the fair as well as Habor One Bank, Abington Bank, and Rockland Trust.

Information for Seniors
Counselors will not be available over the vacation. If seniors plan to apply to colleges in the coming weeks, seniors must submit their requests for processing/sending supporting application materials to their Guidance counselor no later than Friday, December 16th. Requests for materials to be sent after that date may not be processed until we return on January 3rd.
Mid-year grades (at the end of Term 2) will automatically be sent to all colleges in your Naviance list - make sure your list is up to date.
Make sure you file FAFSA! All students applying to post-secondary education and training (2 year & 4 year colleges, community colleges, trade/technical/vocational schools) must complete and file the FAFSA to qualify for financial aid. If any of your colleges require the CSS Profile, be sure to file that as well.
Check your email for invitations to set up College Applicant Portals for each school you apply to.
PSAT Information for Grade 10 & 11 Students
Congratulations on taking the PSAT/NMSQT. Your scores should now be available at studentscores.collegeboard.org.
Your score report has valuable information on your areas strengths and areas for improvement. You will also be able to access free, personalized SAT prep through Khan Academy with your PSAT score results - a great resource for Juniors who should be taking their first SAT this spring!
How to Access Your Scores
If you provided your email address on your answer sheet, you'll receive an email notifying you of when your scores are available. The email will have a unique access code that will connect you to your scores online.
If you didn’t provide an email address on your answer sheet or if the email you provided is incorrect, you will not get an email with an access code. You can get your access code from your Guidance Counselor.
If you haven't set up a College Board account (which you will need to access your scores), you can set one up here.
If your name or other personal information was bubbled incorrectly on your answer sheet, you may still be able to access your scores, but you should correct any errors as soon as possible. You may be able to edit the information in your College Board account. If you can’t, you will need to contact the College Board: 866-433-7728 or psathelp@info.collegeboard.org.

Junior Information
Junior year is a busy one in terms of thinking about and planning for life after high school.
Guidance counselors will be meeting with Juniors in classes soon, and following the classroom visits will be holding individual future planning meetings to discuss post-high school plans.
We will be hosting a College Search/College Admissions presentation for Grade 11 parents/guardians on Wednesday, January 11th at 6:30 PM (this presentation will focus on four-year colleges) - details can be found here.
Students who are planning to apply to at least one four year college next year should consider signing up for admissions testing this spring - the SAT, the ACT or both. While the number of colleges who are test-optional continues to grow, some colleges will still require an SAT or ACT score for admissions and/or merit-based financial aid.
Students on free or reduced lunch may be eligible for an exam fee waiver - they should see their Guidance Counselor PRIOR to registering for an exam.
The following resources will help you/your student register and prepare for tests:
