Admin Corner
Wow, it's March this week! We are nearing the halfway point of quarter three, so please check in with your student and the online gradebook to ensure good standing at this time.
Survey
As you may know, Loudoun County Public Schools has partnered with Brightbytes, a data analytics organization built specifically for K-12 to provide insights into our new and changing learning environments with the goal of ensuring personalized learning support for all students. We are reaching out to ask you to take part in our school survey. Your responses are completely anonymous, and the survey will take approximately 5 minutes to complete. Please complete the survey linked here by Friday, March 4th. Thank you for taking part in this important initiative!

Counseling
Mindful March: Mental Health is Important
Mindful March is a campaign that includes a 30-day challenge encouraging you to practice 60 seconds of mindfulness in your everyday life. In today's fast-paced environment where everyone is focused on the next best thing, we often neglect to take time and focus on being in the present. Mindfulness is an important practice in our mental well-being by bringing attention to the present moment and building awareness of surroundings. When practicing mindfulness, we put ourselves in a state of awareness that brings insight to emotions, helps improve our relationships with ourselves and others, as well as improves our ability to concentrate and be attentive. Mindfulness goes beyond meditation; the goal is to remain alert while focusing on relaxation, allowing thoughts to be acknowledged, then re-directing your attention to practice.
Physical activities:
-54321 Method: go on a walk and notice 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell, 1 thing you can taste
-Walking Meditation: find a quiet place 10 to 20 feet in length and begin to walk slowly focusing on the experience of walking, being aware of the sensations of standing, and the subtle movements that keep you balanced
-One-Minute Movement: take 1-minute to get up and stretch, connecting with different areas of your body
-Yoga: follow yoga poses to stretch and connect with your body
Mental activities:
-Look Out The Window: set a 1-minute timer and look out the window, focus on nature such as trees, flowers, birds, the clouds which allows you to focus on the present moment
-Wake Up Gently: try to keep your eyes closed for a few minutes after you wake, stay off your phone for a few minutes, focus on breathing and on the sensations around you
-Body Scan: set a 1-minute timer, lie on your back with your legs extended and arms at your sides, palms facing up, focus your attention slowly and deliberately on each part of your body, in order, from toe to head or head to toe
-Sitting Meditation: 1-minute meditation that focuses on breathing and acknowledging any interruptions and returning back to focusing back on your breathing
Spiritual activities:
-Positive Affirmations: write or repeat positive affirmations
-The Sunrise Ceremony: spend one-minute in the morning to connect with the land and give thanks
-Gratitude Reflection: spend one-minute reflecting on what you're grateful for
PTSA
Volunteer Opportunities
The Champe PTSA has two very important volunteer opportunities coming up:
- Teacher appreciation week is coming soon! We need help planning and carrying out activities to show how much we appreciate our amazing JCHS teachers.
- Class of 2023 Parents - before you know it, your kids will be seniors! We're looking for volunteers to lead senior events for next year. Why sign up now? We want to get a jump start on planning for next year.
Fundraising
The PTSA is raising money for a few core events to help make this a memorable year for the seniors! We are planning an end of year Sports and Field Day, as a core graduation event with ther on-campus events this spring to give seniors opportunities to get together as a class and celebrate their final year.
Please support our seniors with a small suggested donation of $25 to make these events happen, though any amount is appreciated and will help us achieve the goal of giving our kids some memorable end-of-year events. The donation is tax deductible under the Champe High School PTSA tax id# 45-4901759.
You can support the class by making a donation via Pay4SchoolStuff.com or by dropping a check made out to John Champe High School PTSA at the school office.
If this is your first time using Pay4SchoolStuff you will need to set up an account, add your student to the account, and link them to John Champe High School. Once you do that you can Select the "Class of 2022 Senior Fundraising" item and make a payment via debit or credit card.
Please reach out to johnchampeptsa@gmail.com if you have any questions.
