• analyzing theme in complex texts

Science:

• talking with one another about how some prospective parents use preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) to select for embryos with genetic predisposition to deafness or achondroplasia (dwarfism)

Languages Other than English:

• discussing cultural similarities and differences (could be done in the target language)

Math:

• clarifying students' understanding of the definition of function or other vocabulary terms
