Grab your favorite team or sports gear and get ready for Kindergarten Signing Day! Early registration night kick off on March 7th @ 4:30! Join us to begin the registration process, meet and greet with staff, tour campus, and a snap a picture in the photo booth! First 50 families in attendance receive a special "Welcome to Kindergarten" gift bag! Please carefully look over the list of required documents needed for registration. REMINDER: Your student MUST be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2024 to register.

State law requires a kindergarten screening be administered for all kindergarten students. The results of this screening provide valuable information about a child’s readiness for school, help teachers plan instruction to meet each child’s individual needs and offer useful information to parents. Emerald Coast Middle School is hosting student and parent information nights on March 4th and 5th at 5:30 PM for rising 6h graders.

Robotics Club applications for grades 1-3 are being evaluated for the limited positions available. Notifications on status will be sent out early this week. Those accepted will meet this Thursday after school until 3:30. Thank you!

Girls on the Run inspires participants of all abilities to recognize their individual strengths while building a sense of connection in a team setting. Coaches facilitate lessons that blend physical activity with life skill development to enable participants to adapt to whatever comes their way. Thank you to staff coaches Mrs. Stevens, Mrs. Lyons, and Mrs. Kavanaugh for their work with students!

Dr. Runnels and his team visited with Dune Lakes' Kindergarten students! They shared their wisdom on the importance of taking care of your teeth using the "2-2-2" rule! Thank you to the Runnels Orthodontics team for meeting with students!

Your student has access through Classlink and at floridastudents.org to original tutorials in math, reading, and science. These interactive video tutorials can help your student review content and be successful on the upcoming FAST exams in May.

This system integrates technology and content into an unconventional environment and transforms the gym into an immersive, exciting, and engaging learning space! The WCSD Transportation department has added a new bus to the DLE afternoon routes. The Shark bus has begun servicing students in the Chat Holley area effective 02/23. If affected, your student should have received a new bus tag and a letter from their previous driver regarding the switch. Please contact the front office if you have questions regarding this new bus. You can also check your student's bus online by visiting the link below and sign up for the Here Comes the Bus tracking app using the attached flyers below.

Does your student know the AVID word of the week? Join us in promoting a robust vocabulary at home by using it with your student!

We have backpacks for boys and girls! Please stop by the front office if your child is in need of a backpack. Thank you to our community partners for their support of our students.

If you want to share a snack with your child's classroom, please make arrangements with the teacher in advance. We ask that these celebrations be done in the classroom setting. A small celebratory snack can be shared at the end of the day prior to dismissal. Please keep this to a handheld small snack to avoid messiness and be mindful of nut-free classrooms.

Read Across America Week is March 4-8. Students will be hearing special readings from authors located in different geographic regions of the United States and have several fun and exciting opportunities to emphasize reading during the school day. Parents are encouraged to either read with or encourage their student to read for 20 minutes a day! Reading daily improves student standardized testing performance, spelling, writing, grammar, and vocabulary! Thank you to Mrs. Carroll for organizing our school reading activities!

Reading is an important part of growing student achievement. Beginning this month, bus riders will be reading to earn recognition as the top Accelerated Reader Bus of the Month! The winning bus will earn special recognition, a special prize for every rider, and have the principal drive their bus route home at the end of the month! Encourage your student to bring their AR book on the ride to and from school. UPDATE: ALLIGATOR BUS IS IN THE LEAD HEADING INTO THE FINAL WEEK!

We are excited to promote reading and writing with the inclusion of a new weekly book review created by students! Encourage your reader to submit their review for a favorite book and they could be included in an upcoming edition of Sandpiper Scoop. This week's review is by 4th grade student Scout Ryland.

Our collection is growing! Parents and guardians are encouraged to label all student belongings. All items unidentified not claimed will be donated to local charity during spring break.

**REMINDER -All volunteers are to submit and application and complete an affidavit annually (even if you have a WCSD volunteer badge).

1. Fill out a volunteer affidavit. This will need to be notarized and signed by a DLE administrator.

2. Complete online application, upload affidavit or leave with school secretary to attach.

3. Schedule background check and *fingerprints, $75 at the district office for chaperone permission.

*WCSD currently does not accept fingerprints from outside agencies. To schedule background and fingerprints, please call 850-892-1100 x1154. Background and fingerprints are good for 5 years, however steps 1 and 2 are to be renewed annually.

**You must have a background check to be a designated chaperone.

Fever Reminders:

A fever is a temperature of 100 degrees or more. Students must be fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications before they can return to school.

Students showing visible signs and symptoms will be sent to nurse and parents will be notified. Any affected student must provide front office with signed proof indicating treatment. • Volunteers, please be sure to check out by 1:15.
• When turning in a doctor's note for your child's absence, we ask that you please send us the original note from the physician's office. Notes should include student name, date they were seen and what days they are excused for. Doctor notes are excused absences. Altered notes will not be accepted. • If you would like notification that your child has checked out a library book, please log into FOCUS and make this change. This must be done each year.
• All transportation changes must be received by 1:30 p.m. If you are sending a request via email, please send your email to DLEinfo@walton.k12.fl.us and include a picture of ID. If you did not receive a confirmation, please call the office. This is for safety purposes.
  
• 🚩 NO EARLY CHECK-OUTS ARE ALLOWED AFTER 1:45 P.M., please arrive prior to this for any appointments. You will be asked to go to the car line and wait for your student after this time.
• Walkers: All walkers must have a walker waiver on file at the front office. Parents picking up their walkers are required to have the walker pass issued by the front office. We will not release any student to parents at the walker exit without this pass. Please call the office for specific walker guidelines 850-622-5012.

  1. Child’s student identifier (10 digit number beginning with 66 assigned by the district).

  3. Parent Portal Registration PIN. If your child has a portal account, they can provide you with the PIN by viewing the General tab under My Information. Or you can obtain your PIN from the school office.
