Hey Giants! Need study tips? Look no further!
- Start simple by prioritizing sleep and eating consistently. Without proper rest and fuel, your brain won't have the energy needed to put all your studying to good use. If you can brave the cold, consider heading outside for a brain break.
- Utilize some time management strategies and list-making to feel more in control. When there are a lot of thoughts swirling around in your head, it can be helpful to write it all out, so that you feel more in control. You could consider writing out a list of to-dos or tasks that you can cross off (satisfying!) or create blocks of time on a calendar specific to certain subjects/material (ex: 1:00pm-2:00pm: Study Chapters 13, 14, 15). Don't forget to schedule in brain-breaks, if you can! A bit of fresh air or a chat with a friend might give your brain the rest it needs to refocus.
- Stay social. You're all in this together! A study group could be a great way to review material and feel less alone. Beyond studying, remember it's okay to reach out to a friend, parent, teacher, etc. if you need some extra support - We are all human.
- If you feel anxious right before your final, try these techniques to lower your heart rate, relax your body, and feel more grounded and focused on the present:
- Bring your attention to your breath. Repeat the phrases “breathing in, breathing out” to help keep the mind focused on inhaling and exhaling.
- Listen to your favorite song. Try to stay present, allowing other thoughts to pass, like leaves on a stream.
- Box breathing: breathe in for a count of four, hold for a count of four, breathe out for a count of four, hold for a count of four.
BONUS!
Create your ideal study environment. What might make studying for finals a bit more enjoyable? Is there focus music you love? Colored pens that make your notes feel more aesthetically pleasing? Have you considered where you feel most focused? How can you feel more in control of your studying environment?
