SHES Weekly Update
Sunday, January 16, 2022
Hello SHES Families!
I hope everyone is having a good three-day weekend! It has been wonderful seeing all the students back at school getting back into their routines. We are looking forward to another great week of teaching and learning at SHES.
As you know, we have had quite a few positive COVID cases in the district since we returned from break, and many of you received phone calls about your children being a close contact. I appreciate how supportive everyone is and your willingness to test and help us get through these next weeks as best as we can. I anticipate another week of close contact, and thank you in advance for your grace and patience as we continue to do everything we can to keep our students in school. If you get a call about your child being identified as a close contact and your student must test, please send a photo of the negative results to Mrs. Hayden at khayden@alpineschools.net.
We ask that you send your child to school with their mask if possible. While we do have masks here at school, it would help our supply if those could begin bringing them to school again. Thank you for being so supportive as we maintain a healthy campus.
We will be postponing all assemblies and gatherings scheduled due to the surge in COVID cases. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

2nd i-Ready Diagnostic starts this week!
It’s hard to believe that we’re already preparing for the second i-Ready® Diagnostic. The second Diagnostic is an important benchmark for understanding your student’s growth, which is why it’s so important they try their best. These results allow us to better support them in achieving their growth goals for the year.
The most important thing we can do is prepare students and motivate them to put forth their best effort.
Here are a few things you can do to help support your student:
- Make sure they get a good night’s rest before taking the Diagnostic!
- Talk to your student about why the second Diagnostic is important. You can say things like:
- The second Diagnostic helps you find out how much progress you’ve made since the beginning of the year.
- It allows your teacher and I to celebrate your accomplishments!
- Try your best, and do not rush—but don’t spend too much time on a question either.
- Remember, questions on the Diagnostic change based on your answers to earlier questions. You will see some questions you don’t know. That is okay! Just try your best.
- Let them know you’re excited to celebrate their progress.
- Thank you for your continued partnership in your student’s learning.

Lastly, we could not make any of this happen without your support. We love volunteers!
