Principal's Message
Good afternoon CHS students and families,
We had a successful Homecoming Week last week culminating in a well attended dance where students celebrated together. It was nice to have the new commons area for a well lit entryway as well as more space for students to gather during the dance. Other highlights of the week included the parade and the Football team win.
This time of year we also get to enjoy senior nights where we honor seniors and their families for the dedication they put into their sport or activity. It is a favorite of mine to witness these events and to acknowledge the supportive community that is so important to the success of CHS’s students.
We are looking forward to our first conference night of the school year. We are so happy that we can provide both in person and Zoom opportunities for families. Conferences will be held on Wednesday, October 18. From 4:30-6:00, we will hold in person conferences in the cafeteria, library, and new commons. The in person time is a drop in format; no appointment is needed. From 6:30-8:30, we will have virtual conferences on Zoom by appointment. Watch for an email from instructors to make an appointment for the Zoom option.
As midterms are approaching, it is a good time to talk with students about their grades. Have them pull up their Studentvue and ask them about any missing assignments. Feel free to reach out to teachers with questions. Additionally, we have tutor labs in Mathematics, Science, and Language Arts available before and after school and at lunch for students to get help. The library is also open. Counselors are a great resource as well. We are here to support you and your students.
Have a wonderful week!
Best,
Cari Sloan

Oliver Insurance Athlete of the week
Week of 9/25/23 Harmony Davies - Volleyball and Jasenia Camacho Lopez - Cheer
This past week in varsity sports, football beat Southridge 50-6, boys soccer lost to Putnam 2-3 and Thurston 1-6. Girls soccer beat Putnam 6-0 and tied Thurston 0-0. Volleyball lost to La Salle 0-3 and to Wilsonville 1-3. Our Cross Country team competed at the Sunfair Invitational.
Our Cougar CHAMPIONS for the week are Melanya Kutzenov, Parker Ackerman, Maddie Gibson, and Lucy Snyder.
Melanya Kuznetsov - Melanya has been a leader on and off the field. She is caring towards her teammates, passionate about improving, and shows so much respect towards her teammates and her coaches. Mela inspires everyone around her to work hard and enjoy doing it. She has a very bright future ahead of her!
Parker Ackerman - Parker personifies what a champion is, both in the classroom and on the field. A three-year starter, Parker has played almost every position on the field. His mental toughness, positivity and attitude is not just inspiring to his teammates but coaches as well. Parker plans on playing both football and lacrosse at Liberty University next year.
Maddie Gibson - exhibits the true definition of a champion as a Canby High School athlete. Not only is she a hardworking and noble leader for the Cheer team, but she also carries those attributes to the classroom as well as her other activities. Maddie is also a member of the PSU Dance Team and she continues to inspire her teammates with her optimism and dedication to her craft.
Lucy Snyder - Lucy is a great example of a champion on the JV2 volleyball team. Lucy is a leader on and off the court. She is kind, responsible, and respectful. She is always first to encourage her teammates and be positive and loud on the court. The energy she brings to games is contagious! She is an excellent student athlete.
