THE RPI PULSE
Your source for all things RPI! January 10, 2021
A quick note from the principal's desk...
Good Afternoon RPI Families,
If anyone in your family has tested positive for COVID-19 or has symptoms, please let us know ASAP and please consider keeping your kids home as a preventative measure to mitigate the further spread of the virus.
In two weeks, we will conclude the first semester of the 2020-2021 school year. As with most things this year, our transition will be unique from any other year. When the new semester starts, we will eagerly welcome those students who are transitioning from full virtual (Edmentum) to F2F, our students who are moving from Edmentum to RV with our teachers, and a number of students who are moving from F2F to RV. While details are still being worked out, we wanted to give you a "heads up" that our transition may require some flexibility to fully welcome and integrate all of our students who are transitioning in some way. It might be similar to, but on a smaller scale, to our soft start from the beginning of the year. Because, at this point, this will likely only impact 5th-12th grade students, we expect the impact on childcare will be less than if it were to be at the K-4th grade levels. However, we know that any potential change requires advance notice. Expect more details soon. We just wanted to give you a "heads up."
Rocket Virtual/Edmentum Families:
Likely, you have a ton of questions swirling about next semester. I know that we are only 2 weeks out but we will be communicating soon around the following things:
- Edmentum students moving to Rocket Virtual: We are in the process of assigning you to a classroom and solidifying a schedule. Once that is done, the teacher will be reaching out. We ask that you be flexible as this is an entirely new way of doing things for us. I am working with the teachers to best prepare for this. Expect it to be bumpy at the start. What I can tell you is this: we will be using Google for everything and all of your "class meetings" will be on Google Meet. So, students will need to be logged in to their RP google account!
- Edmentum students moving to F2F: We are excited that you are coming back. We are almost done assigning you to a teacher and they will begin communicating to you. Parents, just so you are aware, our class sizes will not be larger than 22, which allows us to keep kids distanced as much as possible but still offer a great educational experience.
- F2F students moving to Rocket Virtual: In most cases, you will be staying with your current teacher(s). There are only a few exceptions. The schedule will be coming from your teachers soon but expect it to be similar to when we were virtual around Thanksgiving.
Please reach out should you need anything!
Have a great week everybody! Go Rockets!
Yours in Rocket Pride,
Scott Panozzo, Principal

The P2 Post
We will be discussing prudence in this context this week: "You plan for the future and achieve your goals by making careful everyday choices." Often, we look at goals as these large things we want to achieve like: I am going to be a doctor or a pilot or an astronaut. Just as often, these goals may fade away because it is so far away from our current reality.
So, I encourage you to talk to your kids about setting a few "smaller" daily goals or for a smaller window of time. When I was coaching, we always talked about winning the next three matches. Smaller time chunks allow us (kids) to build strength and resiliency with "immediate" feedback. That feedback allows us to adjust more quickly to our current situation. Hope this helps!!
I hope you take some time to use the Family Resources this week. Information below:

Curriculum/Grading
The end of the semester is on Friday, January 22nd - Please have your student be looking for any communication from their Edmentum teachers on completion of their courses.
Students will be receiving a Credit/No Credit at the end of the semester based upon the following information:
Demonstration of progress through completion of Curriculum and performance tasks
A reasonable amount of time spent learning the content tracked within Edmentum
Efforts to connect with your Edmentum teacher and Rocket Virtual Mentor
A reminder that final Exams in the 6th-grade are not required for any classes and will not have an impact on your final grade.
2nd Semester - Begins Monday, January 25th
- Whether you are staying virtual or coming back to school F2F - Look for information from Mr.Panozzo in his weekly communication along with emails that may be coming from your student’s RP teacher. There will be A LOT of important information in these communications to make sure your transition is as smooth as possible.
If you have any questions that are not answered please feel free to contact the R-PI office at 744-9280 or contact your current Rocket Virtual Mentor.
