Erin's Law Parent Letter: MUST READ
Victor Pacini and Deanna Hynes will be presenting at ours schools on March 8th
February 23, 2024
Dear Parents:
Erinβs Law, House Bill 6193 was signed by Governor Pat Quinn on January 24, 2013. This law requires schools to implement an age-appropriate sexual assault and abuse awareness and prevention curriculum for grades pre-K through 12. It is recommended that four communications a year on Erinβs Law be made available to all students, often through social-emotional instruction and/or contact with the school social worker.
Victor Pacini, a survivor of sexual abuse, author, and motivational speaker, will be assisting our schools in implementing this mandate. Mr. Paciniβs program is developmentally appropriate, interactive, and aligned with learning standards. The focus of his presentation is to teach children basic skills to keep them safe from dangerous or abusive situations. The concepts that will be discussed are:
β’ Distinguishing safe from unsafe touches
β’ Safety rules at home and school
β’ Saying βNOβ
β’ Safe/Unsafe Secrets
β’ Itβs not the childβs fault if someone touches him or her
β’ Telling a trusted adult
Mr. Pacini and his colleague, Deanna Hynes, will be presenting at our schools on Friday, March 8. Each grade level will participate in an assembly for approximately 30 minutes. The content can be previewed here: https://www.victorpacini.com/peace-of-mind-2/
If you have any questions please contact your building principal or our school social worker, Mrs. Crystal Phan, at: cphan@saltcreek48.org
*Requests to Opt-Out: If you prefer that your child opt-out of this prevention education session, please contact Mrs. Crystal Phan, by completing this form: Opt Out Form

West Side Parking Lot
If you are parking on the west side of the building to walk your child to the building, please watch for pedestrians as others are dropping their child off as well. We want to keep everyone safe.
Swartz Drop Off & Pick Up
With the colder weather and snow piled up, drop off and pick up at Swartz can be more challenging. Please follow the guidelines below to keep drop off/pick up running smoothly.
- Pull up as far as you can to allow multiple cars to unload at one time. Cones will be out for the last few parking spaces to help with this.
- Stay in single line (no double rows).
- Use Monterey to proceed to the line. Do not turn down Elder and turn around in a resident's driveway.
- Drive the speed limit when driving on Monterey and any streets around the school.
- Do not park on the east side of the building. This can be very dangerous, it blocks traffic and slows down the line.
- Do not wait and watch your child enter the building. If you need to watch your child enter the building, please park on the west side of the building and walk your child to the front entrance. We have a supervisor on duty from 7:30-7:40 am.
Summer U
Curriculum and Instruction - Dr. Chris Martelli
SummerU
While it's only February...it's time to start planning for summer! There will be a few changes to our SummerU programming that we wanted to make our entire Salt Creek community aware of. First, we will be inviting students who need additional time and support to meet grade-level expectations. Therefore, we will invite students to participate in this year's SummerU program based on student performance results and recommendations from our staff. Second, the SummerU program will run from June 10 - June 27. Typically, we run our program closer to the start of the following school year. This year will be an extension of our current school year. As always, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me (cmartelli@saltcreek48.org).
Rebecca Caudill Voting
4th graders had a special lunch with Mrs. Krull as they voted for their favorite Rebecca Caudill book.
Kane County Cougars Reading Incentive for Swartz Students
Our school will be participating in the Kane County Cougars Reading Club, a reading incentive program sponsored by the Kane County Cougars baseball team. Your child will have the opportunity to improve his or her reading skills while earning a free ticket to a Cougars game, enjoying a free hot dog (Hot Pretzel) and drink at the game, and participating in a parade on the field before the game.
Student forms are in their take home folder. Students should read 3 books every two weeks of the program. When they do, write the titles of the books, and sign that portion of the ticket. Each ticket is a base! The fourth week, students score a "HOME RUN" and earn their free ticket to the game on May 14th during school hours!

Standard Response Protocol
Salt Creek District 48 has adopted a new emergency protocol response from the I Love U Guys Foundation. This is a program that has been adopted by many of the schools within DuPage County. Over the summer, the administrative team attended training on the protocol and is passing along the training to all staff. We also want to make families aware of the five different protocols so you can be familiar with the language you may hear your child or the school use.
