Being in school on time and being ready to learn are always important. It is even more important during our STAAR simulation this week. Please make sure your student gets plenty of sleep and is here on time for our STAAR practice sessions. It makes a big difference in your child’s day, and this practice will help your child prepare for our upcoming state assessments.
Llegar a la escuela a tiempo y estar listo para aprender siempre es importante. Es aĂşn más importante durante nuestra simulaciĂłn STAAR de esta semana. AsegĂşrese de que su estudiante duerma lo suficiente y llegue a tiempo para nuestras sesiones de práctica STAAR. This survey gives you the opportunity to tell us about your child’s experiences and your experiences with the school as a parent. All survey responses are confidential and will not be linked back to you. Please click on the link below to complete the survey by March 29. If assistance is needed please call or visit the front office. You will need the ID Number (Lunch Number) of your oldest child at HHE to complete the survey. Please contact your child's teacher if you need it.

Read Across America kicks off on Friday, March 1st. Your child will enjoy guest readers from Highlands High School in class and during lunch. Students are encouraged to dress in their favorite Dr. Seuss character attire! Read Across America will continue the week of March 4-8th. Let’s Celebrate Reading!
Thursday, March 7th: PK-3rd grade
The Miles of Smiles team is excited to be joining forces with us at HHE! The program will continue to provide preventive services for all participating children in Prekindergarten, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade.
Children eligible for the following preventive services:
Dental Evaluation - Prekindergarten, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd grade
Fluoride - Prekindergarten, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3RD grade
Dental Sealants - 1st, 2nd, and 3RD grade only
Please encourage all students to return the signed participation consent form by March 1st even if the parent/caregiver does not want the student to receive services. In order for the children to receive dental services, they must have a signed and completed PARTICIPATION CONSENT FORM. They will accept forms up to the day of the screening.
Going the Extra Smile
Children in Prekindergarten, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade that participate will receive a goodie bag that contains a new toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and a list of community dental clinics.
Parents and/or caregivers of the participating children will also receive an oral health status report for each child completed by the treating dentist and dental hygienist. The report provides an overview of the child’s oral health and outlines all preventive care provided by Metro Health.
The dentist will immediately contact parents/caregivers of all children identified with urgent dental problems. Additionally, a follow up phone call is made by the Miles of Smiles Program to ensure the child has access to comprehensive dental treatment.
Children who are uninsured or underinsured for required dental treatment will be referred to Metro Health case management services. Ongoing care will be coordinated through Metro Health, the University of Texas Health Science Center Dental School and many community partners.
Saturday, March 2nd
There will be food distribution at Highlands High school on Mar 2, 2024 at 9:00am. It will be on a first come first serve basis. Habrá distribución de alimentos en la escuela secundaria Highlands el 2 de marzo de 2024 a las 9:00 a. m. Será por orden de llegada.
Student events: Principal Cartwright and Counselor Moctezuma visited Forbes Elementary students during their lunch time. We were able to meet and interact with our new familia!
March 2, 2024: Signing Day 11:30-1:00 Welcoming our new students and their families. We will have craft activities and pizza while we assist parents with registration.
