Principal's Message

Hathaway Community,

It is my pleasure to welcome everyone back for another great year at Hathaway! As you know, the last several years have brought many dramatic changes to how Hathaway operates on a day-to-day basis. The coming year will be no different. The 2022-2023 school year will present many opportunities for growth, change and learning. Our staff will all be working extra hard to make this year be the best possible year for your children, our school and our community. Each of us are excited to have students returning to our campus and classrooms. Rest assured that one of our primary goals is to make every child feel safe, welcomed, connected and a part of the Hathaway family.

Please take a few moments to read and review some of the important information in our first newsletter for the 2022-2023 school year.

At home COVID-19 Test kits will be distributed Thursday, August 18 in the cafeteria.

August 19, Office will be open until 1:00-4:00pm.

At home kits are intended to be used prior to students returning to school August 25. If you are unable to come on the 18th, office will be open Friday, August 19-1:00-4:00pm. Office will be open August 23, 24 - 7:30-4:00pm. Thank you!

First Day of school is Thursday, August 25. Please arrive to campus by 8:00 am. ALL classes begin at 8:05 am.

As a reminder, at no time is it acceptable to send students to school when they are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, and especially if they have received a positive test result (laboratory based OR at-home test). Please make sure to report all positive cases to your students’ school.

Universal Meals

Great news! starting this year throughout California, as a result of Education Code (EC) 49501.5, all students in grades TK–12 will be provided two meals free of charge (breakfast and lunch) during every school day regardless of their free or reduced-price meal eligibility!

Good food and nutrition are an essential part of great learning!

Safety First

Hathaway Community, one of the most important goals at Hathaway is for us to work together to keep all students, staff and educational partners safe as we enter and exit campus.

Please remember:

During morning drop-of and afternoon pick up, please do not park in red zones or double park on Dollie Street in front of the school.
Parking lots are for district staff and individuals who need accessible parking only.
Please remember to use crosswalks and sidewalks when walking to campus.
Please be respectful to staff as we work together to enforce safety for all.

No Bullies!

Anti-Bullying Policy:

Hathaway and the Governing Board recognize the harmful effects of bullying on student well-being, student learning, and school attendance and desire to provide a safe school environment that protects students from physical and emotional harm. No individual or group shall, through physical, written, verbal, or other means, harass, sexually harass, threaten, intimidate, cyberbully, cause bodily injury to, or commit hate violence against any student or school personnel, or retaliate against them for filing a complaint or participating in the complaint resolution process.

After-School Education and Safety (ASES) 2022-2023!

Hathaway After-School Education and Safety (ASES) enrollment for the 22-23 school year is happening now! Next fall we will have many new and exciting changes! ASES is Monday through Friday after school. Please stop by the office to pick up an ASES enrollment packet. Lets get ready for a great new year of learning!

Start the day off right!

Hathaway community, please ensure that our students arrive to campus no later than 8:00 am. Arriving on time allows students time to walk to their line and be ready to be picked up by their teacher. Students should be in their seats by 8:05 am. Students arriving after 8:05 are marked tardy.

Dressed and Ready to GO!

Gentle reminders for dressing for success when coming to school: Please wear school appropriate clothing when at Hathaway.

Items that are not allowed:

gang-related insignia/graffiti on clothing, backpack or school supplies/work,
clothing with inappropriate writing (alcohol, drugs, weapons, disrespectful statements)
No clothing, hats or personal items with team/sports logos
Pajamas (except on celebration days)
sleeveless tops, see through blouses/shirts, low cut or bare midriff tops; spaghetti straps

Nothing that distracts from the learning environment is allowed.

TK AND KINDERGARTEN ENROLLMENT

Its that time of year again! Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and Kindergarten 2022-23 enrollment is now open!

Students who turn 5 between September 2nd and February 2nd may enroll in Transitional Kindergarten.

Students who turn 5 by September 1st may enroll in Kindergarten.

TK is offered at Bard, Haycox, Hueneme, Larsen, and Williams Schools.

Enroll for both TK and Kindergarten at Hathaway. If TK is not offered at Hathaway, office staff will assist in enrolling your child in one of the TK classes at another school site. Based on enrollment, TK classes may be added to additional school sites like Hathaway. To see a TK and kindergarten classroom in action, please watch this short video:
