CTE Celebrates Career and Technical Education Month
Students and faculty at Weatherford High School will join others across the nation during the month of February to celebrate National Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month®. This year’s tagline is
Celebrate Today, Own Tomorrow!
CTE Month provides CTE programs across the country an opportunity to demonstrate how CTE makes students college- and career- ready and prepares them for high-wage, high-demand career fields.
Among the special activities scheduled at WHS are:
1. TSA Advisor Appreciation Week,
2. A CTE awareness campaign conducted with the Career Center and the Printing & Imaging Class with student created Destinations CTE Course Catalogs, posters and slogans distributed to elementary, middle school, and high schoolers
3. The Celebration continues with Digital Learning Day (observed across the nation) on Feb 23rd and
4. Concludes with TSA contests in Photography, Animation, Multimedia, Video Production, Graphic Design, Desktop Publishing, Webmastery, Computer Skills, Architecture, or Engineering, to qualify student’s Career and Technical projects so that winners will advance to Regionals where they compete with other districts to qualify for state competition.
“The activities planned over the next month will illustrate the rigor and relevance CTE courses offer our students,” said Mrs. Bobbye Moreno, A TSA coach and Destinations Catalog advisor.
Mrs. Donna Schoonover, Career and Technical Education Coordinator at WHS said “Providing a career focused education is one of our top priorities in the WISD Career and Technical Education Department as we believe connecting education to workforce needs and post-secondary education is important to student success. Preparing our students for the global community is our mission. When students can see the relevance of their education and how it can be utilized in the real world, they see “why" school matters. Our community partners help us ensure we are teaching the most up-to-date skills and offering the most current licensures and certifications as possible.”
CTE encompasses 94 percent of high school students and 13 million postsecondary students in the United States and includes high schools, career centers, community and technical colleges, four-year universities and more. CTE is a major part of the solution to myriad national economic and workforce problems, such as high school dropout rates, a weakened economy, global competitiveness and massive layoffs. At a time when opportunity for employment is so critical, CTE programs in every community are ensuring students are equipped with the skills to successfully enter the workforce.
