Hello Bobcat Families,

I hope everyone is having a great break. I heard it snowed today in the foothills! My family is now in Oregon visiting my son and skiing at Mt. Bachelor, it is so cold here! I hope everyone is getting a chance to relax and recharge before all of our events in March and April!

The book Fair just ended last week, thank you to Monique, Mary Anne, Olga and Chiachi for all of your hard work. I know the kids truly loved it.

We are now in the middle of the Read-a-thon! I hope everyone is reading a lot and getting pledges, there are many great prizes to win! Please see below for more details.

March brings us the STEM EXPO, this Wednesday, March 1st, student will get to present their projects to Guest Reviewers during the school day. Then everyone is welcome to come back from 5-7pm to celebrate all of the students hard work.

Thursday, March 2nd is a Minimum Day. Dismissal for Kindergarten is 12:00 and for TK, 1st-6th it is 12:15. Please plan accordingly.

We will also celebrate one of Santa Rita's best events of the year, International Week and Gala. Students will be learning dances from different countries in the next couple of weeks, hear presentations countries and finally on Friday March 24th, students will present the dances during a daytime assembly and at an evening event on the blacktop, with a huge potluck of authentic food brought by our community. I hope you can come to the Gala and bring a dish of your own. More information will be coming out soon.

Finally, Covid Tests

BEFORE returning to school on Monday, Feb 27, 2023. Please use the test sent home before break to test your child prior to returning to school.

Your Student will attend an assembly tomorrow, Friday Jan 13th to learn more about the STEM EXPO!

One of the highlights of our STEM Expo event is having the opportunity to listen to our students presenting on their projects. For Santa Rita’s STEM Expo event on Wednesday, March 1st,, we are looking for adults during the school day who would be willing to serve as a Guest Reviewer. As a Guest Reviewer, you will provide an authentic audience for the students to present their project submission and give feedback. This year, we are excited to announce that we will hold a Read-a-thon fundraiser. Our Read-a-thon is a program that brings students together with family and friends to encourage reading and to build literacy skills.

Our Read-a-thon will start February 13, 2023 and end March 3rd. By simply activating your reader’s personal page and using the promotional tools found there, friends and family anywhere in the world can show their support for your reader by making a donation to our Read-a-thon.

Your involvement in the Read-a-thon will help your child develop a lasting love of reading. We hope each one of you will activate your child’s personal page the day your child brings home their paperwork from their teacher.

In the event of a major earthquake we can assume that electricity and wifi may go down. Therefore, we will use our SMS system to communicate with the community. Essentially a text messaging system that goes directly to your cell phone, SMS requires parents to opt into it to receive texts from the school. We also use the SMS system to send occasional reminders (like on minimum-day dismissals).

You can participate in this free service (standard message and data rates may apply) just by sending a text message of “Y” or “Yes” to our school’s short code number, 67587. You can also opt out of these messages at any time by simply replying to one of our messages with “Stop”.

We’re Listening — Your Input is Key!

Tell us about your student’s experience this school year with STEM, computer science, PE, art, music, library, junior high electives, and mental health counselors.

Please complete our LAEF Survey by Friday, February 17! Check your email for a 2023 LAEF Survey invitation with the subject line “Your feedback is key to improving LASD programs”. If you have additional questions, email survey@laefonline.org.

Your feedback will be communicated to the school district and help guide LAEF’s funding priorities for next year.

We still need $325K to fully fund teachers and staff this school year. If you have yet to give, donate to LAEF today!
