Career Info and Opportunities~Methacton Students & Families
What's My Path?
Many of us (students and adults) ask ourselves this question: "What do I want to do?" Not all of us have found our way to a career that's just right. We may find a career then change to another due to our interests, lack of finding a job or financial considerations. If adults are still on a career journey, how can we expect our students to know what they want to do?
Some students "just know". They may excel in a certain academic area, gained work experience in a certain field, or were inspired by a family member or mentor to follow a chosen path. For some, they have no idea. They haven't found the "spark" or desire that leads to a path to a specific career. What we know for all of these students, is that work-based experiences like job shadowing, mentorships and part-time employment help to support students in their career decision-making.
Please take a look below to see what's happening in and around Methacton, for students and adults. Thank you to the Counselors and to North Montco for providing us with important information about the college application process and career trainng programs.

COLLEGE CORNER from the Counseling Office
It is now the middle of October and things are in full swing for our seniors! with homework, sports, clubs, and social lives, it’s tough to imagine finding time to fill out college applications; it can feel like a part-time job! Below are some items for seniors to be thinking about as we head into November and December and those deadlines start creeping up on us.
- Watch deadlines! Transcripts must be requested at least 15 school days prior to the application deadline. If you are applying to a school with an early decision or early action deadline of November 15, transcripts must be requested by October 25th. As a refresher, Early Decision (ED) is BINDING; if you are accepted through an Early Decision agreement, you must withdraw all other applications and accept their offer of admission. Early Action (EA) is simply and earlier deadline with earlier decision notification. It is not binding and you may apply to as many schools using early action as you would like.
- Get that essay done! One of the most common phrases we hear this time of year is “I’m done my entire application… except for the essay.” The essay is undoubtedly the most challenging aspect of the application. Make sure you have at least two people proofread it for you. Don’t rush and don’t wait until the last minute. It should be well written, authentic and show the college who you are outside of your grades and test scores.
- Show interest. Smaller and medium sized schools will often track interest, which can be anything from an official college visit to an online chat to an email to admissions with a question. Colleges like to admit students who they believe will attend their institution and demonstrating interest is a good way to get on their radar! If you email admissions, remember to write professionally, and not like ur sending a txt :)
- Meet with your counselor! Your School Counselor is a wealth of knowledge and students should be taking advantage of their expertise! If your counselor is writing you a letter of recommendation, be sure to fill out his/her questionnaire so that you have the opportunity to let him/her know what you would like to share with an admissions representative.
- Finally, don’t forget to breath. This is a stressful time and you will get through it. Relax, spend time with your friends and make the most of your senior year. These are the memories that will last forever.
