We have been experiencing such beautiful spring weather, but it is also high time for seasonal allergies. Symptoms can include sneezing, stuffy nose, runny nose, watery eyes and itching in the nose, eyes or the roof of the mouth. To help with allergy symptoms, be sure to take allergy medications as advised by your physician. You can also take steps to reduce pollen in your home and reduce your exposure outside.
- Keep windows closed and use central air, if possible.
- Take off your shoes when inside.
- Change and wash clothing after being outside. Avoid drying clothing on an outdoor line.
- Shower and wash hair before bed.
- Wash bedding in hot, soapy water once a week.
- Wear sunglasses and a hat when outside.
- When doing yard work or cutting grass, wearing a mask, gloves and sunglasses can help.
- Peak pollen time is usually 5-10 a.m and at dusk and pollen is also higher on warm, breezy days. Try to avoid exposure during these times.
- Set your AC in your car to the recirculate air setting.
Although allergies are leaving many with a stuffy or runny nose, please keep in mind that testing for COVID-19 is still required if experiencing other symptoms found on our Family/Student COVID-19 Symptoms Checklist. If your child is experiencing symptoms found on the checklist, they should test for active COID-19 prior to returning to school. Please stay home and contact your child's physician and school nurse.
