Student Holidays
Friday, February 16 and Monday, February 19 are student holidays. Staff will be having professional development training on Friday. Everyone is off on Monday.
Perfect Attendance
FFA
Five out of our six CDE judging teams competed on Friday this past week in the Hondo FFA Invitational contest. The Poultry judging team finished in 3rd place overall and Mitchell Frazier was the 10th high individual in this contest! Congrats to the Poultry Team on winning a banner and being in the top five! The Meats team finished 6th, Wildlife was 7th, Entomology was 8th with Cassie Hartman finishing as 5th high individual, and the Vet. Science judging team also competed in this contest and gained valuable experience and showed improvement.
The Meats, Entomology, Poultry, and Vet. Science teams competed in the James Madison CDE Invitational Contest in San Antonio on Saturday. The competition was tough and a few people were missing due to other activities, but those who were there competed well. Entomology was the highest placing team at 6th overall, and Cassie Hartman was the 9th high individual. These teams all learned a lot and continue to get better.
All teams are working hard and looking forward to a very busy spring judging season. There are about 50 students competing on six different judging teams.
Prom
Plans are underway for the 2024 Prom. Upperclassmen, make sure to reserve the date - April 13. The Prom will be held at Carriage Hills.
Booster Club News
The Blanco All Sports Booster Club meets on the second Monday of each month. The next meeting is on Monday, February 12 at 6:30 PM in the HS library.

Basketball
The girls basketball team traveled to Brady Friday (Feb 2) losing a close contest 44-40 The JV won their game. The Panthers closed out their district schedule on Tuesday (Feb 6) against Llano at home. They defeated the Yellowjackets 33-28 and secured second place in district. The JV lost their game by 1. The JV ended up 7-3 in district and finished second in district behind Llano. The varsity also finished 7-3 in District behind Brady. The varsity will enter the playoffs as the #2 seed from District 5. They will play the #3 seed from District 6 - Coahoma - in Comanche on Monday (Feb 12). The game will tip off at 6 PM.
The boys basketball team traveled to Brady on Friday (Feb 2). The varsity won their game 44-31. Both JV teams won their games as well. The Panthers hosted Llano on Tuesday (Feb 6). The Varsity lost their contest by 1 point. Both JV teams came up short as well. The boys have 2 district games left - Friday vs Ingram, and Tuesday vs Florence. Both games are at home.
Powerlifting
The BHS Powerlifting teams were in action at Somerset on Saturday. The girls has a successful day. Kylie Ridner placed 2nd in her division and had a personal best squat at the meet. Nessah Marquette finished 3rd in her class and had 2 personal bests in squat and deadlift. Alex Hartman was third in her class with a personal best deadlift. Vanessa Barrera was 4th and had 2 personal best lifts in the squat and deadlift. Hailey Chalico had a personal best in the deadlift. Maddie Lopez and Torynce Soli set personal bests in ALL THREE lifts (squat, benc, and deadlift). CONGRATULATIONS GIRLS!
Not to be outdone, several of the boys placed and set personal bests for themselves. Donovan Hector finished 3rd and had personal bests on all lifts. Kaden Elrod was third in his class setting personal bests in squat and deadlift. Brian Perez and Luis Garcia both finished 5th in their class.
Both the boys and girls will have their next meet at San Marcos on Saturday, Feb 17.
Golf
The BHS Girls Golf teams competed in Kerrville at Schreiner this week. The girls played on Monday, but were short handed, so they did not field an entire team. The girls all showed improvement individually and are scheduled to play next week in Llano on Monday
The boys played at Schreiner on Wednesday as well. They will travel to Llano on Wednesday of next week.
Spring Sports
Softball team has been scrimmaging and playing well. They will have one more scrimmage against Marion (Feb 9) before the season opener against Pieper at home on February 13.
Baseball scrimmaged on Feb 6 vs TMI. Several players got to see action on the field and the scrimmage overall was a success. They will scrimmage at Roosevelt on Feb 14 at 4:30. They will open the season with an Alumni game on Feb 17 - JV will play at 1, varsity at 5.
Tennis practice started this week. They will open their season on February 14 at the Llano Varsity Tournament. JV will serve things up on February 22 at Fredericksburg.
Track season is just about a month away. The boys and girls teams will travel to Ingram for their first meet on February 22 to compete in the Ingram Relays.
Construction Update
Lots of work is being done and dirt is being moved for the Educational Center for the Arts. Things are on track and on schedule.
BISD broke ground on the field house at Panther Stadium this week. Things will start to progress there soon.

In an effort to recognize contributions and accomplishments of BHS students and staff, we will be giving shout outs to individuals or groups who have made and impact, represented Blanco HS well, done a good deed, gone above and beyond expectations, extended a helping hand, received an award, or just did something cool. Athletic Tickets
Fans can also download the Home Town Ticketing app to their smartphone and order tickets through the app.
Tickets are usually available for purchase 3-5 days prior to the contest. In person (cash) tickets will not be available at the gate/door.
This will only apply to BISD HOME games. We have no control over how other schools sell their tickets. If other venues require online ticketing, we will provide that information as soon as we have it.
