For the Week of January 17-21
Estimados Padres,
Gracias,
Mrs. O’Hair
Directora de la Escuela Elemental de Shady Grove

UIL Tryouts Begin on Monday, Jan. 17th!
UIL Tryouts will begin on Monday, January 17th. The coaches have sent home information regarding their tryout schedule with each student on their list. Practices will last for 30 minutes. Please be mindful of the pickup day and time for your student. If your student already attends the YMCA after school program, they can be returned there when the tryout is over. All other students will need to be picked up in the regular pick up line, or you can park and come to the front of the building to pick them up. You will receive an additional letter next week informing you if your child has made the team as a participant, or congratulating them for a job well done at the tryout. Below is the schedule of tryouts:
Monday: Creative Art Kelley Glidewell 3:25-3:55
Mon & Thurs Chess Puzzles Floyd VanDer Stoep 3:25-3:55
Tuesday Storytelling Cassandra Courtney 3:30-4:00
Wednesday Creative Writing Kelley Glidewell 3:25-3:55
Friday Music Memory Lorraine Bonsall 3:25-3:55
Birthdays!
Is your child celebrating a birthday? Feel free to send individually wrapped birthday treats for your child's class. The teacher will serve them at an appropriate time according to each class's end-of-day schedule.
Please keep in mind the "individually wrapped" condition when planning the treat to send with your student. Individually wrapped treats minimize exposure to extra handling.
Car Line Reminders
It's also a great time to review drop-off / pick-up procedures:
-Are you parking on Harvey St. by the grove of trees to drop-off in the morning? If so, please walk your child to a staff member in the front of the building rather than sending him/her to walk alone. Please also avoid blocking residential driveways and bus traffic.
-All students should enter the building at the front entry. The only students entering from the back of the building should be bus riders.
-No in-person pick-up after 3:00pm until the car line is finished. As we work to dismiss our students in a timely and orderly fashion, we must keep the front entry/exit doors uncrowded. As a result, parents needing to check their students out must do so before 3:00pm or after the car line is finished.
Other general reminders:
-Help us keep the line moving as quickly and safely as possible by staying in your car, seating your student on the right side of the vehicle, and giving goodbye hugs and kisses before the drop-off line!
Day of service
January 17, 2022 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and for BCISD students, it is also a school day. Traditionally, BCISD has held school on MLK day to educate students about Martin Luther King, Jr. and his belief that "life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'what are you doing for others?'" The districts goal is for "students to learn about the contributions and sacrifices of Martin Luther King, Jr. by participating in service projects on their campus and around the community."
PreK - make cards and sing for residents at Country Oaks Assisted Living and Pafford Place
Kindergarten - make and deliver treats for the local Fire and Police Department
1st Grade - make and deliver treats to local healthcare workers at Seton Highland Lakes Hospital
2nd Grade - pick up trash at the local YMCA parks
Pictures coming soon! Keep an eye on our Facebook page!

COVID-19
As a reminder, the 10-day COVID isolation rule for students has not changed. The current guidance from the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) is for COVID-positive students to isolate until at least 10 days have passed since symptom onset or testing positive, be fever-free, and other symptoms have improved. Fever-free means for 24 hours without the use of fever suppressing medications (Fever is a temperature of 100° Fahrenheit or higher).
It is possible that the DSHS isolation rule for COVID-positive students may be updated in the near future. Watch your email for news of any updates.
You may review the District's COVID protocols, access the BCISD Self-Reporting form, and view the BCISD COVID-19 Case Dashboard by clicking the button below.

How do I request a change in transportation?
- Submit an email on the same day as the transportation change request by 1:30pm to: sge-transportation@burnetcisd.net
- Include the following details in the email:
-student's full name
-student's grade level
-student's homeroom teacher
-the transportation change you want made for today (bus to car, car to bus, etc)
In order to ensure a smooth dismissal process for all students, requests made after 1:30pm will not be processed. Notes, phone calls, text messages and emails sent to any other email will not be processed.
Visitors are welcome for lunch!
We are happy to announce that because of the continued decline in COVID case numbers, parents are once again permitted to visit Burnet CISD elementary campuses for lunch. Visitors will continue to be restricted during breakfast time so that the instructional day can begin without any delays.
Please read the following important information carefully prior to visiting during lunch beginning December 1st:
Because of previous visitor restrictions, we realize there may be a high demand to come for lunch, especially in the first few weeks. Large number of visitors will cause a delay of the check-in process at front offices. You can help by having your ID ready when going through the check-in process.
Visitor seating is limited, and we request parents limit their lunch visits to no more than one time a week. If we are unable to safely and efficiently accommodate the demand of lunch time visitors, we may need to implement protocols such as assigned days by alpha or a pre-registration system.
Because of supply chain issues in the food service industry, any visitors for lunch must bring their own food to ensure that we can reliably feed all students.
Only those individuals listed as an emergency contact for a child are permitted to visit for lunch.
A separate table will be designated for lunch visitors and their student. Friends of the child being visited are not permitted to join. Outside food may not be shared with friends of the student.
Lunch visitors are permitted in the cafeteria.
Please be respectful of the student’s instructional schedule. The student should return to the classroom with his/her classmates when the lunch time ends.
The health of the community is a driving piece in the ability to keep the campus open to visitors. As stated in the BCISD Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services plan, the District DOES expect each individual to screen himself/herself prior to arriving on BCISD property. An individual with symptoms of a contagious illness should remain home.
