December 4th, 2023
Greetings from Mr. E
Feliz Navidad! ‘Tis the season…. for unpredictable weather, colds and flu, and CHRISTMAS! We have three weeks until the end of the semester and Christmas Break. I hope that you all are able to enjoy the holiday season and have meaningful family time.
WINTER WEATHER
Please make sure students come to school prepared for the weather. The mornings have been pretty cool as of late. Our policy is that if the temperature “FEELS” like 15* or higher, we will be outside for Walking Club. Many of our afternoons have been warm. Students have been showing up in the morning with shorts and t-shirts with no jackets. We don’t have enough staff available to allow them to go inside if they are too cold. The only other option is to bring them closer to 7:55, that is when we line up to go inside.
We would like to see students bring heavy coats, gloves/mittens, stocking caps/ear muffs, and snow boots when appropriate. Remember that when the snow flies students will be restricted to the blacktop unless they have snow boots on. Some boots that kids wear are NOT snow boots and they will not be allowed off the blacktop. It will be the discretion of the staff.
NO SCHOOL
Friday, December 22, there will be no school due to teacher work day, the end of the semester, and the beginning of Christmas Break. Christmas Break will end on Monday, January 8 when school resumes.
December
*The PTO is hosting our annual Holiday Store.
*We have another round of NSCAS Testing for Grades 3-5 and DIBELS benchmarking for all K-5 students. Please help us to encourage your students to do their best.
*The next PTO meeting is Tuesday, December 5, 6:00pm in the Jefferson School Library.
*PTO Movie Night, Friday, December 8, from 6:30-9:30pm.
*We will also have our K-5 Music Program at the FOX Theater on December 19. Due to the size of the theater we will run three shows: K-1 at 6:30 students arrive at 6:10; 2-3 at 7:00 students arrive at 6:45; and 4-5 at 7:30 students arrive at 7:10. With this format, we will need to shuffle students and families in and out quickly. We will have more information on this part of the program very soon.
It has been an eventful year so far and I know there is more to come. Thank you all for your support for our staff, students, and school. Our goal is for every student to be successful.

PBIS
The Positive Behavior Interventions and Support Team has been getting together each month to discuss data that students present with academics and behaviors we can assist with during the school day. We are seeing great success with the interventions we are implementing school wide! With our return to school we will have all classes reteach the school expectations within the building and on the playground. This review will help students be successful in remembering how to behave in different situations while within the building. Please take a few moments to discuss with your child the different rules/guidelines that they need to follow at school (in the classroom, hallways, bathroom, playground, etc.) and talk about how they are the same or different from the rules you use at home! Thank you again for your support!
PTO - Parent Teacher Organization
Our Parent Teacher Organization is looking for new members. We have meetings every other month and plan fundraisers and fun activities for families to enjoy together. Please email our PTO President Randa at jeffersonelementary@ymail.com for more information. Our next meeting is Tuesday, December 5th from 6:00pm-7:00pm in the school library.
ROAR
Jefferson ROAR Tickets
On Monday, September 18th Jefferson Elementary will be implementing a new positive choice behavior ticket system. All staff members will be able to give these positive tickets to students who are displaying good choices, being safe, respectful, responsible and display an understanding of our Boys Town expectations. Each week Mr. E will draw for a total of 10 tickets between two reward buckets. Each month at our school wide assembly, Mr. E will draw from a combined bucket for monthly winners, which will equal a bigger “prize.” There will also be an overall yearly goal established for the whole school to receive a “prize.”
