Green JHS Weekly Bulletin for January 18th

Principal's Message

Dear E.O. Green Parents and Students,

Monday, January 18, is Martin Luther King's holiday, no classes. Thank you for supporting your student to earn good grade marks for quarter 2. We need all students to be present in class and do their very best when completing assignments and assessments. On February 5, 2021, report cards go home.

January is a busy month. Your student will complete the STAR Reading test and the easyCBM math screener. It will be beneficial for your student to get plenty of sleep and enjoy healthy meals to complete all exams successfully.

8th-grade families, your 8th-grade students will have an opportunity to learn about the various academic programs or pathways available to them in high school. The student will learn about the H.S. programs on January 24, 2021. Below you find the English and Spanish brochures with information about the different high school pathways/programs. Please take time to review and learn about them; talk to your student about their choices. The student will meet with their high school counselor in February to select their high school courses for the 2021-2022 school year.

Kindness week is on January 25-29, 2021. Please participate in the Great Kindness Challenge. See details below.

Perseverance

Some days are harder than others. We can't all give 100% every day, but we can always give SOMETHING every day. When you aren't feeling your best or you feel defeated, reflect this week on the things you CAN DO to keep growing, thriving, serving, and working towards being your best self.

Hope

It has been such a difficult year for all of us, but it's important that we never lose HOPE. Spend some time reflecting this week on your own dreams. Write them down, stick them on your notebook, post them on your wall, or mirror, or refrigerator, so that you are always reminded of what you are working towards even when times get tough.

Service

Take some time this week to reflect on what YOU can do to make a difference through serving others. It doesn't have to be a grand or big gesture. Just a small act of kindness, like doing the dishes at home when your parent is tired from a long day at work or helping your brother or sister with homework can go a long way.

Please Report Your Absences

If your child will be absent, please call the school and report the absence to our attendance clerk. Please bring any doctor's notes or necessary documentation to excuse an absence to the school office or email it to Cynthia Garcia (cygarcia@hueneme.org).

Are You Interested in Joining Trio?

Future Trio Students,

Are you interested in joining TRIO? TRIO is a program offered at EO Green to help support students through their education. Students will receive important information about high school and college with consistent guidance over the years. If you are interested in TRIO, please fill out the form as soon as possible. Students already enrolled in TRIO don't need to fill out an application.

Report Cards will be sent out on February 5th. Please check Parent or Student Connect before the end of the grading period to make sure there are no surprises.

February 24th: Career Pathways Presentation

Every 8th-grade student will participate in a live virtual career pathway ZOOM meeting to obtain information about the programs available to them at the high school. Our 8th graders will have the opportunity to listen and ask questions about the pathways by visiting multiple career presentations offered in various breakout Zoom-Rooms.
