Charles Town Prowler
Week of September 19-23
Principal's Message
We have had another great week at Charles Town Middle. It is hard to believe that we are officially through the first half of 9-weeks. Mid-term grades can be found on Canvas.
Families who have shared their interest in volunteer opportunities with the CTMS PTO, we invite you to join us in the media center on Thursday, September 29 at 6:00 PM. We will be meeting the last Thursday of each month. We would love to have your help!
We are a community of life-long learners, Panthers. It's okay to make mistakes; try and fix them and learn from it too! In fact, mistakes grow your brain!
We hope everyone has a wonderful week.
Ms. Reed
Principal
Wellness & Nutrition -- One Chip Challenge Warning
The lunch menu can be found here: https://boejeff.nutrislice.com/menu/charles-town-middle-school/lunch/2022-09-16
Students purchasing school lunch, have the opportunity to visit the salad bar. Our salad bar is a daily, colorful array of fruits and vegetables. This is a great time for our children to learn healthy eating habits and expand their pallet.
Parents/Caregivers: we have seen an increase of students bringing the "hot chip" or "one chip challenge" to lunch. This past week, we had two different situations with students sharing pieces of the one chip challenge in both the 7th and 8th grade lunches. While no student was seriously impacted, it did make for many uncomfortable mouths and a few upset stomaches throughout Thursday and Friday afternoons.
Please refrain from allowing your student to bring this "one chip" challenge to school.
For parents who do not know, the challenge dares you to eat a chip covered in Carolina Reaper and Ghost Pepper seasonings. As a result, many people experience severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and difficulty breathing that can last more than 24 hours and lead to more severe health complications.
We are asking for your support with informing studnets of the dangers of this challenge. Please take a moment to speak with your child about not participating and/or sharing this challenge with others. Thank you for your support with this issue.
Day of Caring
Thank you to Mrs. Scott and Mrs. Myers for providing volunteer opportunities to suppor the community.

6th Grade Science Update: Mrs. Ervine's Class
Hello!
Our science classes have been hard at work learning about atoms and observing the physical changes of 25 catepillars! Students have been working on group projects with atomic theory timelines and made mini pompom Bohr models of the nitrogen atom.
Next week we will be working with the periodic table, doing research, and writing in science.
We are looking forward to having a great week and learning a lot about Science.
Lisa Meador-Ervine
6th Grade Math Update: IXL
Please ensure that studnets have their chromebooks charged and with them each day.
Thank you,
Ms. Mann and Mrs. Griffith
Update from the Nurse:
Students must be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school (without fever reducing medication).
If your student is COVID positive, please inform the nurse. Students are to remain quarantined for five days and must mask for five days upon return to school. They do not require a negative test to return to school. Family members in the same household do not have to quarantine, but are encouraged to symptom monitor and test if there is suspicion of COVID.
Communicate with teachers on Canvas for classwork, and utilize the "electron absence button" on the school website for missed time.

Congratulations Mr. Johnson
It was announced this past weekend that Mr. Johnson will be inducted into the Martinsburg High School Hall of Fame for his athletic accomplishments while a student at MHS.
