Mill Valley Weekly
September 14th, 2023
Hello Mill Valley Families,
Throughout the day, students hear about Mill Valley's behavior expectations of "Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Kind". The purpose of these behavior expectations is to create a positive culture through consistency.
Our school's definition of respect is treating people, places and things with kindness.
One of our school goals for the year is for students to respond positively to the statement "Students show respect for each other at this school". As a school, we will be focusing on students feeling respected. To support our goal, there will be monthly student activities on respect, a strong focus on inclusion and acceptance, and periodic student check-ins.
Sincerely,
Robin Schrot, Building Principal
Allyce Harris & Julie Hetzel, Associate Principal

Phy Ed Notes from Mr. Smith & Miss Yeazel
3rd & 4th Grades have been working on four-square rules, etiquette, and sportsmanship. Students started with two-square and have now moved on to playing full games of four-square. It is great to see students problem solving using "rock, paper, scissors" as a method to settle disagreements in the game. We worked on "rock, paper, scissors" through a fun warm-up activity where students who lost a round had to drop down a level (down to one knee, then down to two knees, then to a full sit). If a student won, they could move up a level and try to get back to standing on two feet.
2nd Grade has been working on partner passing and volleying with a playground ball, making our way up to two-square. Students have improved every class, understanding that they need to hit the ball OVER the line and judging how hard or soft they need to strike the ball in order to be successful. We've also worked on spatial awareness with "Stuck in the Mud" tag as a warm up activity.
Kindergarten & 1st Grade have been working on our listening and spatial awareness skills. Students have participated in games such as "I see, I see" and "Pirate Ship". We've also had a lot of cookies in the gym as we've played "Cookie Dough Tag" to introduce spatial awareness and pathway concepts. We are getting VERY good at keeping our personal space and protecting our bubble!
Helpful Attendance Tips
There are several things that families can do at home to help their children get to school every day. Here are some of the ideas:
Set a regular bedtime and morning routine to make sure children get enough sleep and wake up ready for school.
Make medical appointments when school is not in session.
Avoid taking vacation when school is in session.
Send your child to school every day unless they are truly sick.
Develop back-up plans for getting your child to school if something comes up.
Picture Retake Day
Picture retake day is Wednesday, September 27th.
- If your child has not had a picture taken already, it will be taken then. Ordering information will be given out at the time of pictures.
- If a picture was already taken, but a retake is needed, please let your teacher know so your child can be sent for pictures. Please return the original picture package to the photographer at the time of pictures. The same package will be ordered with the new image. New packages will not be received unless the original package is returned.

Superintendent Focus Groups and Survey Link
The Muskego-Norway School Board invites your participation in developing a desired Profile to inform the search and selection of our next Superintendent of Schools to begin on July 1, 2024.
The New Superintendent Profile will be based on both survey and focus group participation and responses. The online survey, linked below, will be on our district website through September 29 and the focus groups with various stakeholder groups will be scheduled at convenient times during the month of September. Parent and community member focus group dates, times, and locations are listed below. Based on the survey and focus group results, the New Superintendent Profile will be presented to the School Board for approval on October 9, 2023.
Responses to the survey and focus group questions will help to inform the “greatest strengths” of the district to sustain and continue to grow, and the “greatest challenges” of the district to prioritize and address. Your responses will also seek input on the projected initial priorities/goals of the new superintendent and the “most important characteristics/skills” needed to make the connections to address the priorities/goals together.
So, your participation in the online survey, linked below, and the in-person focus groups during the month of September is essential to informing the search - both as an encouragement for qualified candidates to apply and as an encouragement for the school board in their vetting process to discern the most qualified candidate to continue to lead the continuous improvement steps of our sought after Muskego-Norway Schools.
