PRINCIPAL'S REPORT
Hello (Kaayi)
Welcome to our last edition for term 3! Unfortunately, I have discovered the joys of osteo- arthritis and bursitis in my right knee, and so have been immobile for the last week and will be working from home this partial week. Many thanks go to the executive team of Mrs Payne, Mr Barbuto and Mrs Johnson for covering for me onsite! Many thanks to Mrs Gill for covering Early Stage 1 Assistant Principal last week and to Ms Symons for covering them this week. It just shows the depth of experience we are lucky to have at MEPS!
As I'm sure you are aware, we have a public holiday this Thursday as a National day of mourning for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, we return Friday (don't forget the yr 6 mini fete) and then go on school holidays - returning Monday 10th October! All classes resume on the 10th as we don't have a Staff Development Day at the start of Term 4. Don't forget we have a list of important school dates listed further down in this newsletter...very handy!
Vacation Care
WEEMOSH has some limited places left in their vacation care program these holidays.. See details and also info on Term 4 2022 placements and 2023 placements further down in this newsletter.
Student Led Conferences
Conversations I have had with parents /carers and staff about our Student Led Conferences last week have been very positive. It is great to see our students presenting on what they are learning. This is another activitiy that we have finally managed to bring back after the "COVID " lockdowns...very much part of our vision of "growing and learning together to be confident, creative indviduals..." and definitely will be back next year. Thank you for participating.
ROBOTICS
We have been lucky to have Young Engineers Australia offer to run after school Robotics workshops at MEPS on Tuesday afternoons in Term 4. Cost is $200, but I believe you can use Creative Kids vouchers. The program runs at other school sites around Newcastle and Lake Macquarie with very positive feedback. Please note that it is not an actual MEPS or WEMOOSH activity...it is through Young Engineers under a community use agreement. The venue will be in our school Library. Details are in the flyer below.
School Crossing
I have been talking to Dawn who is "Peter" the Crossing Guard's wife this week. Peter is unwell at the moment. He is missing our students and wants to be back as soon as he can, but things may take a little while ( I know the feeling). The Dept of Transport has not been able to replace him, and as you are all well aware we are not allowed to use the "Lollipop" sign as such. MEPS staff have been supervising the children crossing as best they can within the restrictions imposed. Thank you for your patience and understanding. I know the students were working on "get well" cards for Peter, who is a very special member of our MEPS school community. We hope he is back at the crossing in his flouros and "lollipop" sign next term.
I wish you all a safe and happy holiday and look forward to seeing you all on the 10th October.
"Muruung Bangayi" (Awabakal for have a nice day)
