Sunday Scoop with the Supe

News and Notes from the VPSS Central Office
From the desk of the Superintendent Tommy Byler
A very busy week as many of our students were put on showcase in various events across the district, the state and the country. It is always a great anytime I get to see our students showcase their talents and represent our district.
This week we hit the halfway point of the 3rd nine weeks, doesn't seem possible, but we are here. Please be on the lookout for progress reports this week.
Monday is the second to last Virtual Day for K-3 as our teachers come to the end of the state mandated science of reading course "LETRS". This has been a two year journey and we know that it is an inconvenience for all, but we do see the light at the end of the tunnel for this state mandated training.
Finally, I want to remind you all that Mardi Gras Break is upon us next week even though it feels like yesterday we returned from Winter Break. Just think, Parades, Super Bowl, Mardi Gras, Valentines Day. Busy week ahead.
Have a great week!
Your Partner in Education,
Superintendent Tommy Byler

2024-2025 Kindergarten Registration Set
On the picture below, you will find all of the information you need regarding Kindergarten registration for the 2024-2025 school year. The following information is for all those with school age children as Kindergarten is now mandatory in the state of Louisiana.
- If your child is enrolled in a Vermilion PreK class and will be attending the same school for Kindergarten because that is your home zone, you DO NOT need to register. Your information will roll over to the school.
- If you are enrolled in a Vermilion PreK that is in a different zone than where you reside, you will need to go to your zoned school and register.
- If your child is not in a Vermilion PreK, they will need to go to the school and register on the dates below.
Celebrating the Arts for Black History Month
February is the time we celebrate Black History Month and recognize the historical contributions of African Americans, much of what may have been lost over the years. This year, the celebration is centered around African Americans and the Arts. Various events across the district will be celebrated in many different ways throughout the month of February.
Lache Pas Vermilion takes center stage
This past week were joined by the Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser, state legislators, and members from the Louisiana Department of Education for the unveiling of the Louisiana Connections Curriculum for the state of Louisiana.
This program comes from the Reimagine Grant called "Lache Pas" which was written as an after school curriculum that encompassed all things unique to our culture. On Thursday, our students highlighted many of the course aspects from art, dance, weaving, and music. It was a great showcase of our students and a program currently unique to Vermilion Parish School System students and as a future course offering across the state of Louisiana. Thanks to Ms. Madeline Dehart and all of the folks who helped to make this event possible.
Two locals teams excel at UDA National Dance
On Saturday, the North Vermilion Dreams dance team captured the Division II Small Varsity Game Day national championship in Orlando. This is the first win at UDA for a Vermilion Parish school. In addition, the EHS Extreme from Erath High placed as the national runner-up in Game Day competition competing in the Medium Varsity Division II category.
NV will be competing in the Hip Hop finals on Sunday Morning.
