Mountain View Weekly Update
December 10
Announcements & Updates
- The Mountain View Parent Council is in need of a 6th grade representative. The Council serves on a volunteer basis and works with Ms.Toth with the primary objective of fostering dialogue and communication on school-wide topics between the parent community and the School Administration. Meetings take place monthly on Friday mornings. If you are interested, please contact Kelly Gillard (kellygillard@yahoo.com). The representative will be randomly selected from those interested.
- Per Board of Education policy 2430, students must maintain passing grades (minimum 63%) in all classes to participate in Interscholastic Sports. Grades will be checked on December 23, the midpoint of the winter season, and those students who do not meet the criteria will be ineligible to participate in athletics until their academic performance improves.
- A reminder that the Lions' Den will be open to students after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 - 4:30. Please see the November 19 Weekly Update for a flyer containing additional details. The sign-up form is located on Mrs. Toth's Google Classroom, but "walk-ins" are also welcome.
- Update from Pomptonian: Students will now be able to pay cash OR charge additional items to their PayForIt account. At the end of each month, parents will be informed if their child is carrying a balance of $10.00 or more. Student charges cannot exceed $25.00.
Important communication from Mr. Moser
A note from Ms. Walsh
Happy Friday Mountain View, I hope everyone had a great week! Today was an Advisory Friday! The 5th graders' lesson today was the first of Six Essential Lessons from the New Jersey State Bar Foundations’ Bullying Prevention Guide. Today’s lesson focused on building relationships and identifying and respecting similarities and differences within school populations. Fifth graders were partnered up in their EEE classes to interview each other about themselves. Students then took this information and put it in a Venn Diagram, comparing their similarities and differences with their peers, noticing what they have in common and what is unique about each other. These Venn Diagrams were then used as a catalyst to a class discussion about the advantages of having similarities and differences with others, challenges that come with differences, and how we can respect and learn about the differences that we have with others. The 5th graders did an awesome job collaborating with their peers and participating in class discussions.
The 6th and 7th graders' Advisory lesson today focused on Study Skills and Healthy Striving. Students learned about different study techniques, and how to determine how we learn best as individuals. Branching off of study skills, students also learned the difference between striving for perfection and healthy striving. They were given opportunities to reflect upon times when we may have pushed ourselves past our limits or set unrealistic expectations of ourselves academically. The 8th graders will be taught the same advisory lesson next week.
