HAPPY NEW YEAR! Today, we began the second half of this school year! We kicked off 2022 on a great note! It was so wonderful to see all the smiling faces fill up the campus! Gladewater ISD has adopted the Capturing Kids' Hearts phenomenon! Ask your kids about their social contracts and how they are helping to minimize classroom disruptions and maximize respect among students and staff. We have included a link for you to find out more information about the amazing impact this program has on schools across the nation.

Math will begin Unit 5 on proportionality and equivalency.

Don't forget to check your kid's Skill Builders on Thursday to make sure they are ready to turn in on Friday. Students take these home if they are incomplete.

For any clarification, please email your 6th grade math teachers.

Students will take I-Ready diagnostic screener for math and reading to utilize this new program. The testing window will open Jan. 10th. Teachers will begin prepping the students for the screeners on the 6th and 7th.

New AR goals have been created. Students will have until the end of this nine weeks to complete their goals. Encourage them to not wait until the last week, especially since testing, early release, and incentive days will take up most of this time.

Help your child set up a reading routine. Tips: set a timer for 15-20 minutes daily at the same time each day (i.e. before or after dinner, before or after a shower). Ask your child about their book, the main character and his or her main conflict. Sign up for parent alerts from Renaissance Learning. Praise your child for taking and passing AR tests.

There are new AR goals for the 3rd 9 weeks. The first AR article quiz is due Friday, Jan. 7th.

Data assessment will be Monday.

ELAR begins Unit 4 today.

This week we are reviewing data and looking for growth patterns to see how we can better serve your child. We are looking for growth on reading and math screeners, as well as on 9 weeks benchmark tests. We know this global pandemic has affected schools and learning across the nation, but this is something that has worked for our campus even before the pandemic. If you have any questions about your child's progress, please email your child's teachers.

Also, please let us know if we can help your GMS students or family at any time or if your family has been affected recently by Covid or its relatives. We'll help you in any way we can!
