Ms. Simmons' Secondary Scoop

High school lockers are back in use and the hallway has reopened. Hooray! One classroom, the weight room, athletic storage room, the A6 and A8 entrances, the library, and my office are the areas in need of new flooring. All flooring has been ordered and will be supplied by four different vendors. This means not all of it will arrive at the same time, but when it arrives it will be installed as soon as possible. I continue to admire the flexibility of our students and staff and am grateful everyone is choosing to make the best of this situation.

A Parent Portal account is needed to access your lunch balances. This is the same platform utilized to check your student's grades and attendance, and now you can pay to add money to lunch accounts. Please contact Karla Denison (Karla.denison@k12.sd.us) or Bonnie Yackley (Bonnie.Yackley@k12.sd.us) to receive the directions on how to access an account. Please click here for more information on how to access your Parent Portal account. Please make this a priority as many families have negative balances at this time.

Homecoming is next week! I highly encourage you to join the events and activities to promote strong school spirit.

Schedule of Events

Mon, 9/19

• Dress up day: Senior Citizen Day
• Coronation is at 6:30 PM on Mon, 9/19 and the burning of the "E" will follow outside. Afterwards, students will enter door A3 for the homecoming dance which will end at 10:30 PM.
• The homecoming dance is $5 per student. All Elkton students in grades 7-12 are welcome to attend. Pizza and drinks provided. Officer Kriese will be present. Students may leave early but will not be allowed back into the dance.

• Dress up day: Movie Character Day

Wed, 9/21

• Dress up day: Color Wars

- Elementary wear blue

- 7th wear red

- 8th wear purple

- 9th wear pink

- 10th wear grey

- 11th wear white

- 12th wear black

- Staff wear tie dye

Thur, 9/22

• Dress up day: Throwback Thursday - wear an outfit from a decade of your choosing

Fri, 9/23

• Dress up day: Blue & White Day

• Homecoming parade at 2 PM. Parade route is 5th & Buffalo to the athletic complex.

• Pep rally immediately following the parade in the athletic complex.

• Student tailgating with yard games on the practice field from 6-6:45 PM.
