Horning Site Council (Family/Parent Advisory Group)
Join Horning Site Council!
Site Council Wants YOU! Nominations being accepted now!
Horning Site Council's mission is to build community among families, learners, teachers and staff. We WANT people like you to get involved to help improve communication, support school needs, and plan activities to bring the Horning community together.
Site Council was formed in the 2016-17 school year, so we’re fairly new and trying to build our family involvement here at Horning. For the 2019-20 school year, we are looking for members to fill the following roles:
· Secretary: Attend Monthly meetings, update meeting minutes and forms, keep accurate count of members and contact information, help with special projects.
· Treasurer (1-2 people): Register Site Council as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity, establish a bank account, keep accurate records of any funds and banking transactions.
· Communications: Write and create promotional content for Horning events and activities. Work with Principal’s office to publish in Hawk Nation, Peachjar, Facebook, Twitter.
· Outreach: Build connections within the Horning community, Waukesha high, middle and elementary schools, and local businesses to support Horning events and activities.
· Spirit Wear: Coordinate Spirit Wear sales.
· Events (2-3 people): Plan/organize events, create SignUps, work with Communications and Outreach to promote. Past events have included Family Luncheon, Staff Appreciation Meal, and Showcase of Learning. We’d love to add Teacher Appreciation Week, 8th grade social and more.
· Volunteer Scheduling: Coordinate event and spirit wear volunteers as needed, create SignUps.
· Grants: Seek out grant opportunities to fund Horning initiatives, write and submit grant applications.
Please join us at any meeting, or contact us any time for more information! Meetings are on the second Thursday of each month at 5:30 pm in the Library (iCenter).

Best Buddies Chapter is starting at Horning Middle School!
Horning Middle School is proudly starting a chapter of Best Buddies. This program is the world’s largest organization dedicated to ending the social, physical and economic isolation of those students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Best Buddies builds one-to-one friendships between students with and without disabilities through fun, social activities. Through participation in Best Buddies, students will form meaningful connections with their peers; gain self-confidence and self-esteem; and help create an inclusive school culture for all!
How the program works:
At the beginning of the school year we will match a student with a peer that has a developmental disability.
Students will meet-up with their Buddy and spend quality time together in various activities.
Students will be able to participate in events at Horning and at the local chapter. This gives the students more opportunities to socialize and learn more about their Buddy.
Buddy pairs need to meet, talk, text or write each other at least once a week.
The Advisors of this group will meet with the buddies to offer help with questions and make suggestions of what activities to do.
**Please note: All students interested in participating in Best Buddies must complete a membership application using the Best Buddies Online portal. By completing an application for membership, students gain access to their chapter portal, which offers resources and trainings; it also affords members coverage under Best Buddies International general liability insurance.
