Lion's Link Update
October 20, 2022
What a way to end the week!
- I appreciate your understanding as we had to cancel school today due to a major leak in our main water line into the building. I also appreciate Hess Excavating for their quick response to our problem--we thought we would be down until Friday, but they have us back up and running this afternoon. We went ahead and cancelled all of our activities for the day since we didn't know for sure when we would have water again and we didn't want to leave you unable to make plans until the last minute. Depending upon whether we use all of our snow days which are already built into our calendar, we may or may not have to make up a couple of hours. If we do, we will take one of our half days later in the year and make it a full day, so it will not add any days to our calendar.
- Since we also had to cancel Parent/Teacher Conferences, we will have a plan by next week as to how we will get in contact with you to either schedule time for you to come in after school or have a phone meeting with your student's teacher(s). This communication is important to us, and we do not want to end our first quarter without a conversation with you about your student's progress.
- We also had to postpone our FAFSA workshop which was scheduled for tonight. Miss Hopkins will be in contact when she gets a new date for that.
Sports Update
- Junior high basketball wrapped up this week--it was so much fun watching them play this season. They worked so hard, and I never saw them give up during a game, regardless of the score. We have a break for a few weeks before high school basketball starts on November 18, but we're already looking forward to a great season from them!
- Baseball season is also a wrap for this year, but we will see our boys again in the spring season. Until then, we are working on the field and getting it ready for winter.
- Little League is getting ready to do some MAJOR work on our field with the addition of new dugouts. This is a big investment, and we appreciate the time and money that is being donated to this project for our baseball and softball teams. We can't wait to see the end result!
A reminder that with JH basketball ending, we will have more students riding our buses, and route times may run a little later as we make more stops.
Update from Board Meeting
The board also approved a new gym roof last night. Ours is well out of warranty, and in September, one of the roof seams had a 32' split in it which caused a huge leak in one of our locker rooms. It's time to fully replace it, and we will have that done before winter sets in.
We are also looking for a new building secretary. Our beloved Karen Fields, the first person you see when you walk in the door and a huge part of making this district run every day, is retiring at the end of the year. We would like to hire and train someone this year--Karen has a lot of important duties, and we want to make sure the person takes over next year fully ready for the job. If you are interested or know someone who may be, have them contact me at tspencer@tuscumbialions.k12.mo.us.
