Every school year there are comings and goings of teachers and sometimes staff as well. Today we have a few updates we would like to share with our school
We are pleased to announce that we have hired Caterina Cegin as our new Kindergarten teacher. Ms. Caterina has worked in Waldorf schools since 2006. In her 14 years as a lead early childhood teacher, she has worked in Waldorf charter schools in southern Oregon and in private Waldorf schools in the Bay Area. She is very excited to open the Kindergarten at our school and looks forward to meeting the kindergarten parents and children soon — and to joining our whole school community!
Part of living in a school community means that each year we are likely to experience comings and goings, not just of beloved students but also of teachers and staff. Today we have a few updates we would like to share with you.
Mr. Dilansa will be concentrating his energies in the Talent-Phoenix area next year, supporting his family in various ways and possibly teaching at the Logos Public Charter School where his daughter Kiva, a Siskiyou School alum, is a 9th grader. Mr. Dilansa's son, 4th-grader Rhys, will be joining his sister at Logos as well. Mr. Dilansa has been a vital part of our staff for the past 7 years, supporting our students and the school in many ways. As the 5th-8th Language Arts teacher, he has, with meticulous dedication and thoroughness, cultivated the writing, spelling, and grammar skills of our students. This last year he stepped in as our 4-8 woodworking teacher! Gardening and landscaping are also passions of Mr. Dilansa, and his attentive tending to our campus makes it the beautiful place it is. Surely what we will miss most is Mr. Dilansa himself - the steady, kind, calm and always helpful presence that he has been in our midst for these recent years. We are so very grateful for all he has brought to our school, and look forward to honoring him in community at the beginning of our graduation ceremony evening event.
Mrs. Martin will also be leaving the school this summer. Over the last ten years, Mrs. Martin has served as class teacher to two of our classes. She carried our Honeybee Class from 1st through 3rd and then picked up the Blue Heron class when they were in 3rd grade. Mrs Martin’s deep knowledge of the Waldorf curriculum, conscientious attention to supporting the development of her students foundational skills, and deep caring for her students provided essential nurturing for her students through these delicate developmental years . In addition to supporting her students in so many beautiful ways, Mrs. Martin has helped the school as a whole. Mrs. Martin was invaluable during the covid year helping us to find ways to allow the children to attend in person and working on policies and procedures. This year she has been invaluable in helping the school get ready to incorporate a kindergarten program into our school’s structure. We are ever so grateful for all the extra hours she has given and for her generous sharing of her experience in these “admin” domains. In addition to her work with our students. We wish her all the very best on her next adventure.
Have a wonderful week and blessings on our school! From my hearts to yours, Aurilia
May Day is coming! – Friday, May 5th, 11:00am
Join us at Clay Street Park for this beautiful spring festival! Feel free to bring a blanket or folding chair for seating on the grass. Family, friends, and Waldorf preschool and kindergartens are welcome to join.
We ask that Siskiyou School students:
- Wear white clothing (tan pants are great) – if you do not have white clothes, we do have some items in our lost and found closet, just contact Phyllis (phyllis.cooley@siskiyouschool.org) or stop by the office if you’d like to borrow something.
- A bouquet of flowers from your garden to share with their class for their May Day crowns.
Please note:
- Wear sunscreen or a hat and bring a water bottle.
- Dismissal will be at regular Friday times (12:20 for 1st, 12:30 for 2 through 4, 12:45 for 5 through 8).
- Please let your child’s teacher know if you will be on campus and are taking them directly from the classroom and not going to the dismissal area.
If you're interested in volunteering to help construct flower crowns with the children on our festival day, please click the link below to sign up. No experience needed! Its a very fun event to volunteer at!
Thank you!

Fundraiser for Lora Wilde and family
I have this very dear friend named Lora. She has two beautiful boys: Nolan (12) and Hudson (15). They are such amazing beings, and so much because of the deep love and presence of their incredible parents. On April 14, Lora and her children lost their home to a tragic fire in Ashland, Oregon.
I am asking our community (and beyond) to contribute what we can to get her back on her feet. Especially as she figures out what these next very dark months for her and her sweet boys will look like.
Any housing leads are also appreciated. Thank you! ~ Lola Danforth (mlolac@gmail.com)

This is the first generation facing all the unknowns of what we have created in the last 250 years without navigation systems yet in place. Their anxiety, depression, hopelessness makes sense AND there’s a way forward, we’ll find this…together.
With the backdrop of secluded beaches and old growth trees, we’ll sink into our natural rhythms to find our authentic compass point.
Kayaking. Hiking the beach. Exploring the shoreline. Sleeping under stars with the sound of waves. Circles and ceremony around the fire. Solo opportunity. One-on-one attention and community holding.

Missing Booster Seat
Description: Chicco KidFit backless booster seat. Booster was sitting in the front under the info board with another identical seat. Both had luggage tags (these may have come off somehow during the day). It likely accidentally got loaded into the wrong car, but it was missing by 3pm pick up 4/10. Looking for Nanny
We are seeking a nanny to be with Alva 3 days per week as I return to work. The days would be consecutive (most likely Mon-Wed) and the hours are at this point flexible/not yet known exactly. But it would be full days, with the additional potential need for picking up Elias from school and/or summer camps as we approach summer holidays.
Thank you!
