180 Days of Excellence in Every Classroom
Academy of Dallas adopts John Wink's "Excellence in Every Classroom
John Wink shares how you can use the "Excellence in Every Classroom" framework to leverage systems to personalize supports for every teacher. Through this book, Academy of Dallas discovered the components of creating systems of support that incorporate schoolwide professional development and digital supports, teacher team collaboration strategies (PLC's) and protocols, and individualized teacher supports (IAP's).
To ensure learning for all students, AOD has built support systems that guarantee excellence for all teachers. This resource examines the Hierarchy of Instructional Excellence, which prioritizes the order of teacher development for ultimate success.

Parent Engagement
Engaging parents in their children’s school life is a promising protective factor. Research shows that parent engagement in schools is closely linked to better student behavior, higher academic achievement, and enhanced social skills. Parent engagement also makes it more likely that children and adolescents will avoid unhealthy behaviors, such as sexual risk behaviors and tobacco, alcohol, and other drug use.
Efforts to improve child and adolescent health have typically addressed specific health risk behaviors, such as tobacco use or violence. However, results from a growing number of studies suggest that greater health impact might be achieved by also enhancing protective factors that help children and adolescents avoid multiple behaviors that place them at risk for adverse health and educational outcomes.
The Joy of Learning "Motivating Students"
One of the most difficult aspects of becoming a teacher is learning how to motivate your students. It is also one of the most important. Students who are not motivated will not learn effectively. They won’t retain information, they won’t participate and some of them may even become disruptive. A student may be unmotivated for a variety of reasons: They may feel that they have no interest in the subject, find the teacher’s methods un-engaging or be distracted by external forces. It may even come to light that a student who appeared unmotivated actually has difficulty learning and is need of special attention.
While motivating students can be a difficult task, the rewards are more than worth it. Motivated students are more excited to learn and participate. Simply put: Teaching a class full of motivated students is enjoyable for teacher and student alike. Some students are self-motivated, with a natural love of learning. But even with the students who do not have this natural drive, a great teacher can make learning fun and inspire them to reach their full potential.
Blended Learning
Single Gender Classrooms
Academy of Dallas is always looking for ways to increase student motivation and academic achievement. We have seen great improvement by offering single-gender classrooms in grades 6th thru 8th grades. It has been one highly effective change that not only increased academic performance but reduced disciplinary infractions.
Fall Literacy Night and Carnival
This free event is for parents and their children in pre-school through 8th grade. Parents are the most important teachers in their children’s lives. The goal of our Family Literacy Night is to empower families to help their children learn to love books and develop language rich communication.
