A Letter from North Administrators
Mustang Community,
As we endure the frigid temperatures, 2021/2022 Enrollment is red hot! This week our counseling staff met with every ELA class, and with virtual students during North Time, to explain the 3 STEP ENROLLMENT PROCESS to all of our students. Please make this a priority as our Enrollment window ends on Friday, February 19. Please use this link with your student to make decisions about next year’s courses. Students will submit their forms via Canvas and it is important that we get this information by the 19th to ensure we make correct preparations for next school year.
You also should have received information regarding Parent/Teacher Conferences. Like last semester, all conferences will be virtually scheduled via Zoom. Conferences will be held from Monday, February 22 through Thursday, February 25. Teachers will be available at varying times to meet with families. Our teachers look forward to speaking with as many parents as possible. Given the virtual nature of these conferences and the time available, I would encourage you to talk to your child, check grades on Canvas, and decide if a Parent-Teacher conference is necessary. If you and your child are happy with how things are going and with your student’s progress in class, a conference is not necessary at this time.
To sign up for a conference please follow these directions. IMPORTANT: After submitting your signup request, an email confirmation will be sent. Make sure your EMAIL CONFIRMATION shows your selected time. If you do not see a filled-in radio button next to your selected time, this means the time was selected by someone else before you clicked submit. You will need to return to the sign-up form and select a new time. If you encounter any problems with the Conference Sign-up, please contact the teacher.
Thank you for making Enrollment and Conferences a priority for the next two weeks. Both are key for our students’ success. Also, a reminder that there is no school on Monday, February 15, for President’s Day and both February 25 and 26, due to Parent/Teacher conferences.
As always, we are so grateful for our parent community!

Parent Teacher Conferences Spring 2021 (new)
Believe it or not, conferences are here! This year, they have gone virtual. Conferences will be held from Monday, February 22, through Thursday, February 25. Teachers will be available at varying times to meet with families. The teachers look forward to speaking with as many parents as possible. Given the virtual nature of these conferences and the time available, we encourage you to talk to your child, check grades on Canvas, and decide if a Parent-Teacher conference is necessary. If you and your child are happy with how things are going with your student’s progress in class, a conference is not necessary. Feel free to drop the teacher an email with any extra questions that you might have.
Conference Signup To sign up for a conference please follow these directions. If you encounter any problems with the Conference Sign-up, please contact the teacher
Preparing for your Zoom Conferences
Conferences will be conducted via Zoom.
- If you have never used Zoom on your device—Please use one of these 3 options
· Prior to the conference time, download the Zoom Client
· Consider sitting with your student and using his/her MacBook where Zoom is already set up.
· When joining the meeting use this link https://zoom.us/join and enter the meeting code. The meeting code is in the Zoom link found in your Confirmation email. This option does not require a download.
Attending your Conferences
The Zoom link and password can be found in your email confirmation and here. Please do not share. When you arrive to the conference, you will be in a Zoom waiting room until the teacher finishes with the previous parent. Please try to be a minute or so early as our clocks vary and teachers will need to stay on schedule.
The teachers look forward to the opportunity to visit with you in our “virtual” conference setting.

Virtual Option Details for 2021-22 School Year
Plans for the 2021-22 school year are being designed in anticipation that the majority of our students will return to school for the traditional in-person experience our families know and value. For those interested, the district will continue to offer an all-virtual learning option.
The 2021-22 school year will welcome the next iteration of the virtual learning option as it evolves to provide additional opportunities, choice and flexibility for students to learn in a variety of formats. If your family is interested in the virtual option moving forward, please read through the full details regarding modifications to virtual learning on the district website. 2021-22 highlights for virtual learning at the high school level include:
- Teachers/Classmates: Students should expect to have classmates, teachers and/or special education case managers from school(s) other than their home school. All teachers in the virtual option are Blue Valley staff who are fully licensed through the state of Kansas for the subject that they teach.
- Full-year commitment: Students will be asked to commit to the virtual option for a full school year.
- Asynchronous Instruction: At the high school level, students will notice movement toward a more asynchronous virtual experience.
- Dual Enroll “Flex” Program: As has been the case in previous years, high school students will also have the option to dual enroll in the in-person and virtual settings. Enrollment in this “flex” option is subject to course availability.
- KSHSAA Athletics/Activities: At this time, KSHSAA has not renewed the waiver to their standard policy that was in place for 2020-21 which requires virtual students to take one in-person class to be eligible. For the 2021-22 school year, students who desire a virtual learning experience and to participate in KSHSAA-sanctioned activities/sports will need to enroll in the flex option.
Students will have the opportunity to enroll in the virtual option during the high school enrollment period this month. We acknowledge that making a decision in the spring for the fall is difficult given the large number of unknowns. To allow for this unique circumstance, families enrolled in in-person learning (or flex at the high school level) will have an opportunity in July to make a change to the full-time virtual option. The only move a student will be allowed to make in July is INTO the full-time virtual option, not vice versa. Families who feel unsure about their decision are encouraged to enroll in-person for the flexibility of moving to full-time virtual, as desired, in July. For more information, visit the district website.

Have a Safer Valentine's Day
The safest way to celebrate Valentine’s Day is gathering virtually or with people who live with you.
- Make Valentine cards or decorations and drop them off to loved ones.
- Take a walk with your Valentine (a quick one!)
- Celebrate with loved ones virtually.
- Prepare a special meal or dessert.
- Plan a special movie or game night.
- Break out a blanket and have a picnic indoors.
If you plan to celebrate with people who don’t live with you, outdoors is safer than indoors. Holiday Tips (cdc.gov)

COVID Communication
The safety of Blue Valley North students and staff continues to be a top priority. In an effort to keep our school community informed when we have a positive case, families can expect the following:
- Families will be contacted directly if through the contact tracing process conducted by the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment (JCDHE) and the district's health professionals' team:
1. your child was identified as a low-risk exposure of a student or staff member
who tested positive for COVID-19.
2. your child was identified as a high-risk exposure/close contact of a student
or staff member who tested positive for COVID-19.
- If your child’s proximity to or nature of the interaction with the positive individual did not indicate a low or high-risk exposure, then you will not be contacted.
NOTE: Positive cases by school are reflected on the BV COVID Dashboard. The dashboard is updated every Friday with information from the prior week (Wednesday to Wednesday).
Protect yourself from COVID-19
Wash or sanitize your hands regularly, Avoid touching your face and mask, maintain 6 feet distance from others when possible, wear a CDC recommended mask in public settings. Cover your cough with your elbow, enjoy the great outdoors, keep social contacts limited, if you're sick, stay home and consider getting a test.
