Mountain View Weekly Update
March 16
Announcements & Updates
- Attendance is tracked for each class, therefore, students must check in to each class as instructed by their teachers.
- If your child will be logging in late, logging off early, or not participating for the day, please be sure to call or email Mrs. Austenberg per usual attendance procedures.
- The bell schedule has been posted to Mrs. Toth's Google Classroom, was included in the letter emailed to parents on March 12, and was sent in hard copy on Friday, March 13 along with the emergency work folder. Note that students in Advanced Band will "attend" that class block 1 on Thursdays.
- While the entire community is adjusting to eLearning, please remember that your child's daily lessons are part of their education for the 2019-20 school year and third marking period grades (posted April 17). Students must be online each day, completing the tasks given to them.
- Mrs. Toth, Mrs. Lanka, Mrs. Austenberg, and members of the Child Study Team are always accessible via email during school hours.
- Teachers will continue to post grades to Parent Portal.
- The emergency work folder sent home last Friday should only be completed in the event of a technical issue or as instructed by teachers.
- Please check your email for an important communication from Dr. Morillo, which contains the link to a new Student Wellness website created by district support staff.
- Following social distancing guidance from our local health department and the recent protocol implemented by Mendham Borough (http://www.mendhamnj.org/Cit-e-Access/news/index.cfm?NID=50622&TID=94&jump2=0), the Mendham Borough School Districts' playgrounds, fitness trail, and basketball courts will be closed until further notice. We appreciate your support and understanding as we continue to implement additional practices to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
- During the course of the week, Administration has fielded several questions from parents regarding expectations during eLearning. Commonly asked questions and answers are below:
- There is no "passing time" between classes. Are students permitted to take bathroom breaks, stand and stretch, etc...? Yes, students are permitted to take breaks as needed, but to avoid confusion, they should check into their class first.
- What is the cell phone policy/expectations during eLearning? District policy states that cell phones should not be on a student's person during the school day. While impossible to oversee, it is suggested that students follow the same procedure at home to avoid unnecessary distractions.
- What is the expectation for students collaborating on assignments? Unless stated otherwise by their teacher, students must complete assignments individually. Teachers are online and available to respond to questions during each class block.
- What will happen with field trips and athletics? At this time, the District Strings field trip (March 24) and the seventh grade Finance Park field trip (April 29) have been canceled (no alternative dates have been offered yet). Spring sports and field trips planned for May and June will continue to be monitored. Parents will be informed as decisions are made.
- And what about the 8th grade trip to Washington, D.C.? Administration has been in communication with Short Hills Tours. While there is the possibility of a financial penalty for cancellation past a specific date, at this time, a decision has not been made. Additional information will be shared by the end of the month.
- Congratulations to Mountain View's own Kristin Ackerman (7th grade), whose poem, "A Memory," was selected for publication in the 2020 Rising Stars Collection.
