Bethel Springs Elementary School

On Monday, October 29th from 7:00 to 8:00 PM at Bethel Springs Elementary there will be a combined Home and School Association meeting for all three GV elementary schools. The purpose of the meeting is to provide parents with an opportunity to receive information on important school-related topics. Topics will be varied and parents can choose two 30-minute sessions (7-7:30;7:30-8). Registration closes on Thursday, October 25th. The Helping Hand Club/Student Council at Bethel Springs is hosting a Socktober Sock Drive to benefit an area homeless shelter. We will be collecting NEW SOCKS ONLY of all sizes from now until 10/31. Donations can be dropped off in the lobby at Bethel Springs anytime!

The BSES Helping Hands Club

The Garnet Valley elementary schools (BSES, CES, and GVES) hosted an Open House at the end of August. We are asking parents and guardians to complete this survey to help us evaluate and enhance the event for future years.

Mrs. Gamino and her husband welcomed their third son into the world last week! We wish them much health and happiness! Mrs. Gamino will be out until after winter break. Mrs. Lauralee Derksen, one of our long-time building substitutes will be filling in for Mrs. Gamino.

Our annual tradition of Grandfriends' Days will occur on the following dates:

October 24 Grandriends Day Grade 3 10-11AM; Grade 1 12:15-1:15 PM; Grade 2 1:30-2:30

October 25 Grandfriends Day Grade 4 9:15-10:15; Grade 5 11 AM-12PM

This is an occasion for a special adult in a student's life--grandparent, aunt, uncle, parent, family friend, etc.--to visit and share in a special activity. This is a day that our staff and students look forward to each year!

(Please note that the Grandfriends' Day schedule in the printed calendar distributed by the school district is incorrect. The correct schedule is shown above.)

Soft Pretzel Sale: Bethel Springs is having a soft pretzel sale! The Pretzel Boys pretzels will be delivered in time for snack on Friday, October 19th. Pretzels are $1.00 each. Please send back the bottom portion of the Pretzel Sale form with payment and return to school by Wednesday, October 17th. Proceeds will go to our BSES Summer Camps Scholarship Fund. This year our Art and Literature Fling will focus on Greece! Each week in our announcements we will include a fact about this fascinating culture that stretches back thousands of years and has had such incredible influence on the world. PLEASE SHARE THE WEEKLY FACT WITH THE KIDS! In May, around the time of our Art and Literature Fling, there will be an electronic quiz on the weekly facts sent home for families to complete. All families achieving a perfect score will have their names put in a prize basket raffle to be drawn at the conclusion of the Art and Literature Fling on Wednesday, May 28th (you'll have to be present to win)!

Olive oil is always present at the Greek table. Nearly every dish Greek cooks prepare uses this highly prized oil. A bottle of it is also present on the table, and guests are invited to pour it on their food as a garnish just before eating.
