Dear Families,
As schools across the country continue to look at ways to keep our students, staff, and families safe while here at school we are also wanting to provide more opportunities for everyone to ask for help when needed. With that in mind we will be sharing the Safe2Help App with our students and faculty. The state of Nebraska and the Nebraska Department of Education have worked to provide this service to everyone free of charge. This app. is a safe way to ask for help for yourself or someone you know and it can be done anonymously if you choose. Please read below to learn more.
Safe2Help App and Safe2Help hotline 833-980-SAFE (7233),
is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Struggling with depression, anxiety, drug and alcohol abuse,
bullying or anything else – reach out day/night and
speak to a trained crisis counselor.
Parents/Caregivers, Staff and Community Members can also
use the Safe Schools hotline to report unsafe behavior.
Safe2Help is a partnership with Boys Town National Hotline.
For more information, including how to reach a counselor
through email, chat or text, go to www.Safe2HelpNE.org

Hello Families,
Please read below about our PBIS initiative at Elm Creek Public Schools!
Last year, Elm Creek Schools implemented the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework. PBIS is a proactive system approach to help students, parents, and school staff create and maintain a safe, supportive learning environment, promote positive life skills, and reduce negative behaviors so that all children can succeed in school. The PBIS framework specifically outlines expected behaviors in a variety of common areas throughout the school environment, including cafeteria, bathroom, hallways, etc.
As a reminder we all are working to Be GOLD throughout our school and community. In order to Be GOLD, students and staff will display respectful, responsible, safe, and kind actions.
This year, the school will implement a school wide reinforcement system as part of the PBIS framework. Your child was introduced to this new system today! The reinforcement system is designed to encourage and maintain a positive social environment across all grade levels. Students will earn Golden Buffalo Tickets when they are observed being GOLD. Staff will recognize various positive behaviors students display and will reinforce those behaviors with a Golden Buffalo Ticket. At the end of each week, staff will recognize students by drawing a few names of students who received tickets throughout the week. All tickets given throughout the week, will then be entered into a monthly Be GOLD drawing. Students and staff will gather each month to acknowledge individuals who were GOLD.
We look forward to celebrating our students throughout the year! Please be on the lookout for highlights of our weekly and monthly PBIS students! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Mrs. Holland's Science Class
Today the 6th grade worked on engineering a design to a problem, a skill they’ll be working on in science class all year. They were given three cups and were told to stack them without ever touching them. They had limited supplies, and had to figure out which supply wasn’t needed to stack the cups. It was a great lesson in perseverance and team building, and was so much fun to see their brains working so hard!
Mrs. Schopke’s class did some team building on the first day of school by creating towers with spaghetti and marshmallows!
