It's that time of year when we have to plan for outdoor recess. Please remember to send in boots, hats, gloves, snow pants, and perhaps an extra dry set of pants and/or socks. We love to encourage outdoor play and if the weather is above zero, we take our adventures outside.

It's important for students to be ready for outdoor play. If students do not have the cold weather gear, they are asked to stay on the blacktop. If too many kids are on the blacktop, we may have to transition to indoor recess as a social distance safety precaution. Your help in this matter is very appreciated.

At CES, we are celebrating kindness. Many students are able to participate with our kindness shop and are enjoying sharing some simple gifts with staff and students. Additionally, students are able to send a kind note to a friend or staff member. It's easy to be kind: make a note, drop it in the note box in the office labeled with the recipient's name, and watch how kindness can change everything! We'll try to deliver student notes the next few Fridays.

In February we spread love and kindness to others but it is just as important to remember to give ourselves that love and kindness too! Mrs. Phelps will be doing a classroom lesson with each class to encourage positive self esteem as a reminder to students how important it is to LOVE and BELIEVE in themselves! Students will explore all the things that make them special with fun stories and activities.

At home this month use self esteem as a conversation topic and help your student dig deeper into why they do and should love themselves. There are so many ways to remind yourself you are special and you are important. Share with them all the ways you love yourself and how you show it!

• Getting enough sleep is critical for a child to be successful in school. Children who do not get enough sleep have difficulty concentrating and learning as well as they can.

• Set a consistent bedtime for your child and stick with it every night. Having a bedtime routine that is consistent will help your child settle down and fall asleep. Components of a calming pre-bedtime routine may involve a bath/shower, reading with them, and tucking them in and saying good-night to them.

• Have your child turn off electronic devices well before bedtime.

• Try to have the home as quiet and calm as possible when younger children are trying to fall asleep.

• Insufficient sleep is associated with lower academic achievement in middle school, high school and college, as well as higher rates of absenteeism and tardiness. The optimal amount of sleep for most younger children is 10-12 hours per night and for adolescents (13-18 year of age) is in the range of 8-10 hours per night .

If your child is absent from In Person or Virtual learning, please call 592-7552 and leave a message including their name and reason for absence. This saves Mrs. Douglas time in the morning because she calls each person who hasn't called in and leaves them a message. Please remember to get a doctor's note if you have an appt. so we can mark your absence as "excused." Thank you for your help in this matter.

Meal pickup is available from 9am-11am on Wednesday in front of the high school in the bus loop.

Lifetouch has rescheduled our Picture Retakes for Monday, February 22, early a.m . Any student who who would like to have a picture retaken or any student that was absent on the original picture date will be photographed on this day. Kindergarten Graduation pictures will be taken Monday, February 22 in the afternoon. More details will be sent home soon.

Additionally, we have scheduled Spring Pictures for March 18.
