Welcome Back to Austin High School
A note from our principal
Dear Austin Family:
It is my pleasure to welcome you back for another great school year at Austin High School. I hope that your summer has been exciting, fun-filled, and restful. The excitement of a new school year is in the air, and I cannot wait until our students fill our hallways and classrooms with their energy and an enthusiasm for learning.
Austin High School’s mission is to develop life-long learners who are contributing members of our global society. We will achieve this goal by providing a knowledgeable, caring staff, and teaching a challenging, relevant curriculum in a nurturing and disciplined environment. Our strategic plan is aligned with Decatur City Schools’ Plan 2020 goals to create 100% college and career ready graduates by providing them with a high performing staff, supportive operations and processes, and effective communication and technology.
I am honored to serve as principal of Austin High School and I look forward to serving students in this capacity throughout the 2016-2017 school year. The opportunities for success are endless at AHS and it is our time to shine! If there is anything that I can do to assist you or if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to let me know. I will do all that I can to help. Best wishes for a GREAT school year!

Euro Trip 2016
...from Miss Emily West, French Teacher
This was a trip of a lifetime and I was so excited and just blessed to be a part of it and get back to Paris. During the three days we were in Paris, we visited La Tour Eiffel, l'arc de triomphe, strolled down the avenue champs elysées, visited Versailles, the catacombs, Notre Dame, and planned to see Le Louvre but it was closed due to flooding. We enjoyed dining at little cafes where we could watch the rhythm of French life from bistro tables on the sidewalk.
And Spain.... Wow! What can I say about this beautiful country? Spain has some of the prettiest land, architecture, water, and people. When we got to Spain, the atmosphere and attitudes automatically changed. I guess it was due to the fact that we were leaving dreary weather and no sunshine in Paris to come to sunshine and warmer weather. While in Spain we visited the Parc Guel, the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia, the Mediterranean Sea, watched the sunset, went to a light show, enjoyed Spanish food, went to an outdoor market, went to the Palacio Real, dressed up for a Flamenco show, made a stop in Córdoba and visited the Don Quixote place, and a mosque. Our final days were spent along the Costa del Sol to enjoy the beach and do some shopping.
Thank you to all of the students and their families for an excellent trip.
Our 2018 trip will include: Germany, France, Switzerland, and Italy!
