Happy October everyone.
It has been a whirlwind start to this school year. Hard to believe that we are already almost through the first quarter. I know that this year is hard for students, parents and teachers as we continue to battle the CoVid virus. Please help us encourage your student to wear their masks while inside the building. This will help us prevent the spread of the virus and keep our students in school.
There is only two weeks left before the end of the quarter.
Please check your student’s grades and work with them to get their classwork caught up.
We are struggling with students not completing their classwork in class, and are getting ZAP weekly.
We will be requiring students to attend homework help on Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00pm – 6:00pm to get their work caught up. Friday school is also being held from 7:45am – 12:00pm every Friday if their work is still not completed. Please help us by continuing to login to the Infinite Campus Parent Portal and checking your student’s grades. If you need assistance in getting into Infinite Campus, please contact Debra or Rosa in the High School office for assistance.
The middle school volleyball and middle school football seasons are coming to a close. Middle School Volleyball tournaments will be held on October 15th and 16th. Middle School boys’ basketball practice will begin on October 18th. If your son wants to play basketball, he must have a current physical on file in the office.
The 8th grade will once again participate in taking the PSAT8 test on October 14th. This test will be given in the morning. Be looking for more information later.
We will have Parent Teacher Conferences on October 20th and 21st. On October 20th, students will be dismissed at 12:45.
Teachers will be conducting home visits from 4:00pm – 7:00pm. If you would like a home visit, please contact Dalia Molina to set up an appointment at (719)754-2903. On October 21st, we will have conferences here at the school. T
Teachers will be set up in the Gym for in-person conferences. Masks are recommended.
And a BIG shout out to our September Spotlight Students for Skoglund Middle School:
Jose Cendejas, Keomi Chavez, Auzzie Garcia, Giselle Meraz, Isis Soto, and Chayse Boute. Way to go!!!

A Message From Our High School Principal Mr.Jones
Hello Parents/Guardians-
Welcome to the fall season.
This is a great time of year! Your child is establishing themselves as individuals and leaders in our small school and community. Harvest season is in full swing and we can feel the chill in the air. I can tell you this is one of my favorite seasons. We have sunny days, cool night and football on Friday’s! As a school leader, it is also time to identify when students are thriving or struggling with their school work. We have completed 7 weeks of school and we are rolling. It is evident that we have many students/guardians and parents that do a fantastic job with holding their students accountable for their daily school work.
They hold their students accountable and our teachers are able to grow their knowledge on a daily basis. It is also evident that we have some students who do not like school, they hate homework and overall their grades reflect on what they are doing in their classes. Some students choose to put more effort into not doing their work.
This is sand and unfortunate. I am begging all parents and guardians to continue to be the enforcer at home. Engrain in each child the need for a quality education. My Mother and Father did this for me. I am grateful for them holding me accountable. I was not the best student in the world and their persistence paid off.
I am asking that WE all do the same. Our teachers are planning, preparing, instructing and they are helping build our young men and women! Please help us by reaching out and discussing your children with our teachers at parent/teachers conferences on October 20th and 21st. The conferences will start at 4:00 and they end at 7:30. On the 20th our CHS teachers are going to schedule meeting with parents/guardians. We are doing SCHEDULED home/Zoom visits.
If you do not have a scheduled meeting. We will be hosting parent/teacher conferences in the High School gymnasium on Thursday, October 21st at 4:00. Please plan on attending (with a mask). Also, these two days are early release days. All our students will be released at 12:25 on these days after they receive their lunch.
If you have any questions- Please do not hesitate to call me at 719-754-2232.
Thanks-
Mr. Jones

A Message from the School Nurse
Too Sick for School?
IT’S FLU SEASON! – PLEASE READ THOROUGHLY TO PROTECT
YOUR CHILD AND OTHERS!!!
Please make sure to update your phone number, as well as emergency contact numbers so that your child’s school can reach you or another responsible adult during the day, in case your child needs medical attention. (This is an important rule to follow whenever your child is at school.)
Winter is quickly approaching and so are winter colds and other illnesses. You don’t want your child to miss school; but you do not want to send a sick child to school to endanger him /her or others as well.
With flu season upon us, it is important that we work together to keep our children healthy. Viruses spread easily among children in schools, and families with school-age children have more infections than others, with an average of one-third of these family members infected each year. By keeping our children flu-free, we benefit the community as a whole. You can help prevent the spread of flu or help your child get better if he/she does get sick by following a few simple steps:
• If possible, you and your child should get a flu shot (anyone over 6 months of age)
• Remind your child to cover his/her nose and mouth with a tissue when sneezing or coughing and
dispose of the tissue immediately
• Have your child wash his/her hands frequently with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds
• Disinfect frequently-touched surfaces and shared items at least once a day
• Ensure that bathrooms are stocked with soap, hand towels and tissues
• Teach your child not to touch his/her mouth, nose and eyes
• If your child is sick and has a fever, keep him/her at home to prevent the spread of illness to
others
If you are concerned about your child’s flu symptoms, call your doctor early. Call your doctor immediately if your child has a chronic disease.
Common symptoms of flu include the same symptoms of COVID-19: high fever, headache, muscle and body aches, exhaustion, and dry cough. Additionally, children often exhibit other flu symptoms that are rare in adults, such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Some children might benefit from an antiviral medication, which can be prescribed by a physician and can help lessen duration of the virus and reduce the risk of complications, such as pneumonia. To be effective, antiviral medication should be taken within 12-48 hours after flu symptoms begin.
A few other reminders….
· If you or anyone in your family is getting tested for COVID-19 or if anyone in your family has tested positive for COVID-19 please keep anyone that lives in your household home and call the school for further instructions. This will help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
· If your child is vaccinated, they will not have to quarantine- even if exposed.
· Please get your student up to date on vaccines. Once up-to-date in kindergarten the only vaccine that is required is a Tdap at 6th grade entry. If your 6th grader has not received a Tdap vaccine please schedule them to get on ASAP
· If your child needs medication in school for conditions like asthma or allergies please have your doctor complete the correct care plan/doctors’ orders and bring that, along with the medication, to school.
· Please remember to keep you child home if they are sick and/or have a fever. Sick students will not be able to focus on learning and will potentially spread the virus/illness to other students.
Please contact the school nurse if you have any questions.
