We absolutely love having our students play at our playground after school. However, there are one of two things that have to happen for your child to be allowed at the playground after school hours:

1. Come with a parent to supervise.

2. Go home to check in and then come back.

Unfortunately, we do not have staff that can supervise the playground after school, so we want to ensure our students are safe and accounted for. Thank you so much for your cooperation with this.

As a reminder, Election Day, Tuesday, November 8th is planned E-Learning Day for all STOH students. No students will attend school that day in-person. There will be e-learning taking place during regular school hours on students' iPads. More information will be provided by teachers closer to that date.

During the October meeting, the children made cards and brought in treats to thank the Highland Firefighters during Fire Prevention Month.

We also introduced our officers for the 2022-2023 school year.

Shop at Strack & Van Til Food Market, save your receipts & send them to school with your student to help us earn free classroom equipment, courtesy of Strack & Van Til Food Market!

PTO needs your help. We are asking families to PLEASE donate 1 bag of candy for Monster Bash. Please send candy in with your child and make sure the candy you donate is individually wrapped. Your donations will be a big help in making this event a success. The class with the biggest amount of candy donated will win 10 Tickets per student to be used at the event. As always, PTO thanks you for the continued help and support.

• School-appropriate costumes and accessories (no weapons). Students will put costumes on after lunch
• The parade begins inside the school for the kids at 1:00 PM
• Check the photo below to know where parents and paparazzi can take pictures
• Only room parents are allowed in for the classroom parties starting after the parade

Highland Education Foundation is so excited to celebrate American Education Week this year! Flyers will be coming home with our students. If you would like to make any Highland school educator smile with a sweet handwritten note and an adorable apple pin, HEF is collecting the flyers and payment until November 4th!! It's a very sweet gesture and is going to a wonderful cause!! Anyone can honor an educator!

We want all of you to be aware of our COVID protocols for this academic year, so here is a note from our Health Services Team.

Please see the flowchart below. We are starting the year just like we ended the 2021-2022 school year.

• Positive students and staff will be out for 5 days.

• Day 0 is the symptom onset date or positive test date (whichever comes first).

• Days 6-10 the student may be back in the building (if symptom-free) but must wear a mask unless participating in an athletic or P.E. activity.

• Students must eat isolated on days 6-10.

• These students will be tracked on the COVID trackers at each school.

If a student/staff member calls off ill with a persistent cough, vomiting, diarrhea, or fever, they must be out and return after being symptom-free for 24 hours. If they call off Monday, they return on Wednesday, etc.

Please let us know if you have any questions. We hope to keep everyone safe and healthy as best we can.

Our staff and students do an excellent job following safety protocol. Here is a summary of some of the things we have in place here:

• Doors open for students at 7:35 a.m. daily. Students who eat breakfast at school will be allowed entry beginning at 7:20 a.m at Door D. Anyone arriving after 7:50 a.m. will need to buzz and come into the main office to sign in.

• Cars will enter the parking lot off Duluth Street (right turn only) and follow the curve to drop off students. Please pull up as far as you can and drop all your students off at one time. Have your children ready with their backpacks, lunch money, hugs, and kisses, so that when you stop they may exit the car quickly, and we can keep the drop-off line moving. The line can become backed up onto Duluth Street very quickly which causes safety issues for our parents, as well as other drivers.

• Please drop off curbside only, and parents stay in their cars. Avoid dropping children off where they have to cross the street, this is extremely dangerous. It will be your responsibility to cross them if you choose to do this.

• Please be mindful of other drivers and walkers. We know many of you have to get to work, and we want all children to be able to enter the building safely and on time.

• Doors C (1st & 2nd) and B (Kindergarten, 3rd, & 4th) will be utilized for entrance as usual.

• 5th graders and Mrs. Torres's class will use Door G.

At the end of the school day, the following doors will be used for dismissal:

• Grade K will exit through door J (FIVE minutes before the rest of the grade levels)

• Grade 1 will exit through door C (main doors)

• Grade 2 will exit through door B

• Grade 3 will exit through door J

• Grade 4 will exit through door I

• Grade 5 and Mrs. Torres's class will exit through door G

• Bus riders will exit through door J (a few minutes prior to the remainder of the school being dismissed where the buses will be waiting).

Cars may enter the parking lot off Duluth Street and follow the curve to pick up or park in the parking lot to walk up to get students.
