I would like to take a moment and welcome you all to the 2018-2019 School Year. We hope you are ready for a successful year here at Orlando Science Schools.
Our brand new High School building opened with great success and we would like to thank everyone who assisted in making this accomplishment happen! We would also like to thank our wonderful Parent Volunteer Organization(PVO) for their great "ORCA PRIDE" displays at each of our campuses.

Principal's Message
I hope everyone had a wonderful first week of school, and are ready for a successful year!
It has been great to see so many familiar Orcas and welcome new Orcas to the OSS Family! Each week our "Weekly Newsletter" will be sent home via email and may also be found on our Facebook page. Our weekly newsletters are a great resource to stay in the know of everything going on at our Lynx Campus. This week's newsletter is filled with many important reminders and announcements so start our year off on the right foot!
This Saturday, our Science Olympiad, and Robotics Teams will host Informational Meeting at our Technology High School Campus, you will find more information under the Upcoming Events section below.
As we end the first week of school, I would like to thank all parents and students for following school staff directions and our dismissal and pick up procedures. This helped a lot to have smooth traffic lanes. Please check your student's schedule for the pickup times.
Do not forget to mark your calendars for our 2nd PVO Sponsored Fall Festival on Saturday, October 20th, 2018. Information may be found below regarding details about the festival, sponsorships opportunities and more!

Please be advised for the 2018-2019 School Year we will NO LONGER BE ACCEPTING CASH as a form of payment. We will continue to accept checks, credit cards, and SCHOOL PAY. Thank you for your understanding.
2018-2019 Dress Code
Lynx Lane Orcas Families please make sure to review the Dress Code with your students. Dress Code may be found on page 29 in the OSS Handbook STEM Planner 2018-2019 below. Please also see the "Orientation Presentation" attachment below regarding dress code as well.
Important Student Medical Alert Check
If you have a student with any medical conditions such as asthma, anaphylaxis, diabetes or any other serious medical conditions please contact Mrs. Caggiano via email ASAP for the paperwork that will be needed for the 2018-2019 school year.
2018-2019 Emergency Forms
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Please be advised that all Orlando Science Students must have a 2018-2019 Emergency Student Information Form on file for the 2018-2019 School Year. These forms are not optional, and per the OSS Handbook ALL students must provide this form whether they are on campus full time or dual-enrolled. You will also find this form on www.orlandoscience.org , select the “Enrollment Form” button located on the navy blue bar on the left-hand side of the web page select the “Enrollment Forms” Link. Please note you will only need pages Five and Six. All 2018-2019 Emergency Forms are due by Friday, August 31st 2018.

2018-2019 Lynx Lane Clubs
The 2018-2019 Lynx Lane Clubs have begun, please see the schedule below with room numbers.
Students must attend three of their scheduled club days from the weeks of August 13th 2018 through the week of September 3rd 2018. If they miss more than three days they will lose their spot in the registered clubs.
We will hold 1st Semester Club Re-Sign Up during the week of September 10th-14th 2018, on campus. We will NOT be sending home a link for re-signing up students will sign up for any available club spots during the week of September 10th-14th 2018 at school. Please note there will be NO ONLINE sign-ups for the 1st Semester Re-Sign Ups.
If your student would like to withdraw from a club please contact Mrs. Sturm.

2018-2019 Science Olympiad Introductory Meeting!
Dear Orlando Science Families!
The Orlando Science Olympiad Team will have an introductory meeting in Building 3 (High School) cafeteria of Technology Campus at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 18th. It will be for both Division B (middle school) and Division C (High School) In addition to explaining what Science Olympiad is, we will talk about the competitions, study structure, expectations, and 2018-2019 school year events. Students will be given an event selection form at the end of the meeting to choose 3-5 events that they are interested in out of 23 available events. The forms are due Wednesday, August 22nd. About 50 students will be chosen from each division (a total of up to 100), and the studies will begin after the selection. The registration fee is $100 and it will be used to cover some of our numerous costs. If you can’t attend the meeting, please see Mr. Demir (Division C) Ms. Demir (Division B) to pick up a form on Monday, August 20th. Please email, scioly@orlandoscience.org for questions, concerns and/or suggestions.

If you are interested in volunteering and are ADDitions approved please sign up for the opportunity and select a time slot from step 3 below. Parent Volunteers will receive a $35 photo package for their child.

Join the OSS Parent Volunteer Organization!
Dear Orlando Science Lynx Lane and Technology High School Families,
It is time, once again, to join the Parent Volunteer Organization (PVO). Membership is $25 per family for returning families and $30 for new families, your membership dues go directly back into the school to provide items and supplies for our teachers. We are also asking that PVO members work with specific committees (School Improvement, Fundraising, Volunteer Work, Teacher Appreciation, Events, Etc.) Please utilize the SCHOOL PAY link below to pay your dues.
If you have questions, comments, or requests, you may email OSS.PVO@orlandoscience.org . A formal PVO committee, including president and vice-president, will be announced at the end of the first quarter of the 2018-2019 School Year. PVO will hold bi-monthly meetings that will inform parents of progress, agendas, and upcoming events.

The monies received go to supporting our Academic and Sporting Teams, the PLTW (Project Lead the Way) along with many other OSS programs and classroom needs. Upcoming Lynx Lane Events
First Lego League(FLL) Robotics Information Meeting
FIRST LEGO League (FLL) is a robotics club for 4th and 5th graders, which is designed to get children excited about science and technology and teach them valuable employment and life skills. Teams of up to 10 kids, guided by Parent Coaches, program an autonomous robot (using a LEGO MINDSTORMS® robot set) to score points on a thematic playing surface, create an innovative solution to a problem as part of their Project, all while guided by the FLL Core Values. These three elements - the Robot Game, Project, and FLL Core Values - make up the yearly Challenge. Parent participation is required. Fees will go towards the kit, registration, and competition fee. A coaches’ training will be held shortly after the club begins to help prepare parents for their roles and responsibilities this year. There will be a parent meeting on August 18th at 10:00 AM at the Technology Drive High School Cafeteria.Fee: $125
