THANK YOU, PTA!
The LFE Beautification Committee is looking for volunteers to help clean up the courtyard and entrances to the school. We plan to meet Sunday, September 24 @ 5:30 pm to do some simple landscaping, such as edging along the sidewalk and pulling weeds. Please come if you can and feel free to invite others. We'd love to have your help!

STAMPEDE TO READ AT LONGVIEW FARM ELEMENTARY
Dear Longview Farm Families,
This year the LFE PTA will hold a reading event, “A Stampede to Read”, for our main fundraiser (the only other one will be the silent auction at the carnival in the spring). We hope that you saw the information that was sent home this week regarding how the PTA raises and spends money for the good of the Farm. Although the PTA holds several fun events that may appear to be fundraisers (ex: the carnival), after the games, food, prizes and inflatables are paid for the PTA doesn’t make money off of those events. That is why this reading event is so important to the school!
We are hoping to raise enough money to purchase several items for the teachers and students of LFE to use on a daily basis. Some of the larger items on the wish list are water bottle filling stations (currently there is one installed and the kids and teachers LOVE it), smart boards and projectors that continue to need to be replaced, and possibly additional playground equipment. In addition to these bigger items, the additional money goes to fund the PTA budget for
activities such as the carnival, back to school night, and the new-this-year Parent Hot Topic
nights. You may find complete LFE PTA financial information at lfepta.org.
So, here is how the FUN works!
Students will have two weeks to read like crazy! Have your child look at the attached calendar, choose a fun way to read if they would like (we have given some sample suggestions – including a free scone with drink purchase when you do your reading time at GUSTO coffee shop!), and start reading! Each day they complete their time reading (at least 25 minutes for older kids
and 10 minutes for the K-!st graders), please initial that date on the calendar. If they miss a day and need to conquer two days at once by doubling their reading time, that’s ok too! If your student returns their calendar to school on October 6th, with parent initials on each date, they will receive a coupon for a free ice cream treat from Dairy Queen!
On Friday, October 6th we will have a school-wide reading time filled with fun! Younger kids (K-
2 students) will be able to bring a pillow or stuffed animal to read with while older kids (3-6 students) can bring slippers or a robe to wear over their clothes. Students will have different reading activities planned throughout their reading time. They may spend time reading on their own, with a friend, with a buddy from a different grade, or even have a surprise mystery reader (that may be you)!
Well, that’s how the fun works… now here is how the FUND works!
Students will have two weeks to ask parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, and neighbors to support their school PTA by donating money to support their 14 days of reading. Donations can be made with check, cash, or PayPal. As students ask for donations, they can remind their donors that although they aren’t buying something such as a magazine subscription or cookie dough, 100% of the money they are donating goes directly to the school instead of just a fraction of the money like it does when a company is used to run the fundraiser. Plus, students are using more brain power in the process and becoming stronger readers!
We ask that students do two things.
#1 Read! Lots and Lots! Begin your reading on September 22nd and read every day for at least 25 minutes until Friday, October 6th.
#2 Ask for support and donations and return money to school by October 6th.
Attached you will find several things. The first is a list of prizes that may be earned or won by students who complete their reading and bring in donations. Next, a calendar to help with keeping track of days spent reading that should be returned to school on October 6th. Lastly, the pledge form that should be filled out and returned with your student at any time before October 6th. You may send donations in at the same time as the pledge form or if you need time to collect money, you may send the form at an earlier time (prize for those who bring their pledge form to school by September 26th) and send the money in separately. Please clearly mark the money in an envelope with NAME, TEACHER, and AMOUNT ENCLOSED.
If you have any questions please contact Emily Klapmeyer at eklapmeyer@sbcglobal.net or Jen Upton at jenupton35@gmail.com.
Thank you for your support with this fundraiser. We are all very fortunate to have such an amazing school! The funds that are raised will go to make sure we do our part to help with keeping the school just as amazing as we know it to be!
