7-12 Student of the Week for Week of May 22
Layla McTiver is Mrs. George’s student of the week. Layla is a hard worker in
math, willing to engage in productive struggle to get past new concepts that are
difficult for her. Even more important, Layla is a great friend, quick to include
other students in her circle. Her laugh and smile light up the room! Layla had an
older brother, Mark, and is the daughter of Carroll and Stuart McTiver.
Congratulations to Layla and her family! Thank you for all your positive attitude
this year!
7-12 Student of the Week for May 29
Mrs. George, for her final Student of the Week, would like to nominate her favorite student ever, Rylie Burton. On her own merit, Rylie is an excellent student, a talented athlete, and a school leader.
But she deserves recognition above and beyond for having put up with having her grandma hover over her in middle school. Poor Rylie forced herself to tolerate being doted on, fed yummy treats, and given special privileges for 2 entire school years.
When Rylie isn’t playing basketball or volleyball, she’s probably listening to Kane Brown or Drake on her ever-present AirPods, or watching the Warriors or Celtics play basketball. She might be watching Outer Banks or sneaking another look at her favorite episodes of Gilmore Girls.
While Rylie is ‘mostly’ a model student, she might be occasionally caught sneakily talking to her grandma on her Apple Watch or phone sending her a link of something cute she’s hoping will magically appear. While Mrs. George would never condone a student being on their phone in class, she’s loved being able to sneak chats with her favorite student from time to time.
Having a grandma in school means yelling, “I love you” down the hall and finding little things in your locker, and Rylie has patiently participated in these rituals.
Congratulations to Rylie for being my always bestest student.
