New Beginnings
Though we've started a new year, we are closing down the second quarter/first semester of this school year. Please check with your students that they are completing any opportunities for growth still open for them and then game plan for the start of the next quarter!

Class of 2023
If your student hasn't picked up their shirt, they can continue to do that in the cafeteria before the 9:30am bell. If your student didn't order one, there are a few extras available for $15 cash on a first come, first served basis.
Excellence Everywhere
We have loved seeing our graduates return to visit over winter break! Here are two of our stellar grads that came by last week. We wish all of our alumni and alumnae all the best as they head back to school or start their careers!
Madison Townes, 2022 JCHS Graduate
Madison started as a freshman this season at Center and Outside Back for Division 1 Marshall University Women's Soccer Team.
Midshipman 4/C Rachel Yeo, 2022 JCHS Graduate
Rachel is a freshman at the United States Naval Academy.
JCHS eSports
Our Varsity Blue team took 2nd for the Super Smash VHSL State Championship. The team's final matchup was against Freedom High School, and it was a hard fought battle. Congratulations to Haiden Lee (team captain), Yousif Rajeb, Colin Chatman, and our coach Mx. Harper.
Coaches of the Year
Congratulations also go to Coaches Lee Carter (football) and Stephanie Moi (field hockey) for recognition as coaches of the year.

Academic Advising Timeline
We are beginning the academic advising process for the 2023-24 school year. Here is what that entails over the next little bit as teachers give recommendations for student course progression and counselors conference with students (now through February):
January 13 - Academic Advising Overview during advisory
January 20 - Electives/Course Fair during advisory
January 26 - Curriculum Knight at JCHS (6-8pm)
January 25-February 6: current 9th grade students meet with counselors during social studies classes
February 7-10: current 10th grade students meet with counselors during social studies classes
February 13-21: current 11th grade students meet with counselors during social studies classes
Academies of Loudoun
As a reminder, the Academies of Loudoun application window is open now through February 21.
Additionally, Academies of Loudoun is excited to host their second Skilled Trades Fair on Wednesday, January 25th 6:30-8:30pm. This is a great networking event for students in grades 9-12 who are seeking opportunities with companies in the Skilled Trades. Students will need to register by January 20th if they are interested in attending. LCPS United for Wellness Conference
We invite you to attend One LCPS: United for Wellness, the 5th Annual Mental Health and Wellness Conference, on Saturday, Jan. 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Lightridge High School. Learn practical guidance and thought-provoking approaches on how families and educators can help students practice healthy habits to promote their wellness and mental health. During the conference, you will have the opportunity to hear tips and strategies from 46 wellness and mental health professionals from LCPS and our community. The conference also features a resource fair showcasing our community partners and their services that support mental health and wellness. A raffle with great prizes will be offered. Refreshments and snacks will be available supporting student leadership fundraising efforts. We invite you to review the conference program and select the sessions you are interested in attending. We hope to see you there!

Time is Running Out: Apply for the PTSA Scholarship!
We are proud to offer four $500 scholarships to graduating seniors planning to enter and attend a university, college, or technical school in the fall following graduation. Completed scholarship applications must be submitted to Karen King, Career Center Specialist, by 4:18 pm on Wednesday, February 15, 2023. You may email or drop off the completed application to JCHS Main Office. Applicants must be PTSA members as of December 1, 2022.

Latin Fest 2023
The LCPS Latin teachers are hosting their annual LATIN FEST later this month! This year it will be held at Champe in the cafeteria on Saturday, January 28 from 1-3 pm. The purpose of this event is for current Latin students to celebrate the language that they've chosen, and to recruit new Latin students from the community. The activities at Latin Fest are appropriate for students as young as 5 years old: a scavenger hunt, mosaic making, trivia, catapults, the Roman board game rota, a photo booth, etc. PLEASE join us at JCHS for a great time! You don't have to be a Latin student; we welcome everybody!
It’s Taco Time!
Purchase a Moe’s Taco Kit to support Champe’s Avalon Theatre Company. Champe Theatre receives 20% of each kit to support our Mainstage Productions and Competition Team!
Each kit contains:
- Flour Tortillas
- Choice of 2 Proteins
- Lettuce, Cheese, Rice, Black Beans, Pico de Gallo, Sour Cream
- Queso, Salsa, and Chips
Kit pickup will take place after school on Friday, February 3 from 4:18 pm-5:30 pm in the Black Box (Door A-4).

Clubs
Are you interested in starting a new club? The club proposal form is available now through January 23 for interested students! Please be sure your club doesn't already exist and meets a need for our JCHS community. Club info will be shared in advisory February 3 and the spring club fair will take place during lunches the same day.
Service
As a reminder, you can find service opportunities that are shared with the school in the Knights Give Back Schoology course for your graduating class or in Mrs. King's newsletter below.
Athletics
Congratulations to our fall sport athletes, coaches, and fans. We made the Fall Sportsmanship Honor Roll with no ejections or sportsmanship violations.
The John Champe Athletics Booster Club is in NEED of volunteers for concessions for the winter sports games. Volunteers like YOU make it possible to open up Concessions for the games.
This is a great way to earn money for your team or to earn volunteer hours.
